Well after having 2 u joints replaced under warranty, I took the truck in today for a clunk noise when shifting 2nd-3rd.
They just called and said they cant get it to make noise and since it doesnt happen all the time the warranty doesnt cover.
I said could i come and take you for a ride and make the noise..he said no it doesnt matter, come get truck and it will be $100 for diagnostics fee.

Such a pleasant experience yet again

If the dealership used those exact words, it's about the dumbest thing I have ever heard a dealershp say.

The second dumbest thing I have ever heard a dealership say is my insurance has to pay for both cars after their mechanic backed my car into a brand new car sitting on their lot. You can imagine who won that battle of wits.

Exact words except i see where i said this

I should of said he said it doesnt matter if i can make the noise...since it doesnt happen all the time, then powertrain warranty wont cover.

Hammer - maybe one of the individuals from GM support that supports this site can chime in and help you out.

For how much that vehicle was and the problems you are already facing, I would hope the support would be a little more white gloved from the dealership.

Well, I have to say, that's a new one. So the problem is only covered under warranty if it happens all the time. That sounds stupid, therefore, I can only assume it's a new rule the government came up with after taking control of GM.

I tend to agree with you since he waived the $100 fee. He also all the sudden had a deep conversation with the parts guy as soon as i got there so he wouldnt have to talk to me lol Don't worry buddy i could imagine how embarrassing it must be to feed that line of BS.

Hammer450r,

I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience at your dealership. Have you spoken with any other dealership about this issue?

Thank you!

 I'd be embarassed to be the guy who doesn't want to actually work to troubleshoot it. I guess since his computer can't spit out the answer for him he'd rather not actually earn his keep and troubleshoot the issue like a real mechanic :D

dont like the answer? Go complain. Everyone has a boss and eventually youll get heard. I see it all the time. I work on the mechanic side. If someone doesnt like the answer, They ask for the service Manager, If he dosent help, go ask for a GM. If they wont help ask for the Owner. No one wants a irate customer in their dealership. It Looks bad in front of customers.

This was simply a case of somebody engaging mouth before putting brain in gear. If it's a problem the powertrain warranty covers, the powertrain warranty covers it whether it does it ALL the time or not. There is no such thing as a part being 2% defective or 25% defective. If it's defective, it's defective, period.

As an example..... if your transmission engages 98% of the time, the 2% of the time it doesn't engage makes it defective and makes it covered by the powertrain warranty. Any service manager at a GM dealership knows this.

Right its like saying the bearing only knocks when you mash it so don't mash it and tell us when it knocks all the time? haha

ol' saying still takes hold of this situation... "It's hard to find good help." ridiculous answer from someone who doesn't take his job all that serious. i worked in that business for 8 years and on my WORST day i would've never said that to a customer, sorry. i worked in parts, service then became parts mgr, service mgr etc. maybe it's just your work ethic but that's ridiculous. if i ever lost my current job i would probably go back into that industry, i was good at it but just didn't like the instability that dealerships in NYC had at the time. New owners every 2 years and too much change you never knew when it was "time to go".

Best of luck with your truck. just perfect making the noise happen on command and you can show them next time you're there and it's on them.

Take a video with your phone, or if you have something like a Go-pro, go ahead and record daily until you get it to happen.

Unbelievable. I know that rod knocks when you first start the truck but it's intermittent. Let us know when the motor implodes. Really?
