I'm ready for the 93 tune

Ok, so I have a time slot for my tune this saturday and boy am i ready. I am going with the higher octane tune so this morning when filling up i put in 93 octane for the first time since owning my yukon. I was on the fence about which octane to go with, i was leaning more toward the 87 octane because I didn't want to pay anymore for gas than what I was paying already.

Then I thought about something Blueflamed posted on a thread about the two tunes. Money wise you are not paying that much more for using 93 octane over 87 and you are getting better quality of gas which should = better mpg's. This morning i paid $4.72 more by using 93 over 87. If I fill up every 7 days(4 x a month) and avg $5 more than what i'm use to paying that would be $20 more a month.

I started working from home 3 days a week in Feb so I'm not driving as many miles/week anymore so I can easily make up that $20. I realize my working from home really helps in making this decision easier for me but i would go with the 93 tune even if I didn't have the work from home schedule. I just think in the end the results of the tune would be much better. However I have read some posts from members that got the 87 tune and they were plenty happy with the results as well, so either way I think we are going to be happy with whatever octane you go with.

My understanding is if you want better mpg and more power go with the higher octane. I'm sure if you hit justin or Jenna up they could help you with that.

No doubt, it's a no brainer and plus, with the new 22's i need all the power available to get them rolling. $20 more a month can be made up by a number of things. I really can't justify not going with the higher octane.

and in all reality, you don't HAVE to run 91-93 all the time. But when you want optimal power ( pulling, going up hills, driving it harder than normal) you can run 87 for day to day commute.

nope, spark knock will sense detonation, and pull out timing, or power as a another term. Hence why 93 has more power, gives more timing.

Say it runs great with 93 octane in it and 93 tune.
Put 87 in it, you mash the peddle and the computer senses knock, it will pull more timing out.
Like your '77. You have initial and mechanical advanced, or should. You make adjustments to cease detonation by reading the spark plug, or hearing it. You add bigger jets, or pull timing out until it goes away, or limit total timing, or ramp rate.
Same for computer controlled, but it's all automatic.

Interesting!! I, too, have been tossing around which tune to get when the time comes (probably in the Fall sometime) and this is very helpful!!! I hadn't thought about it in that way. As it is now I have to put mid-grade (89 octane) in it anyway in order to keep it from pinging on load. A jump up to 91 or whatever wouldn't be that much of a monthly gas bill increase anyway I don't imagine...

Finally you'll love it.I have the 93 octane tune but with the price of gas I sometimes put 87 octane in it with no problems.You'll love the get up and go with the BB tune

I have no doubt I will love it and it only confirms my speculation when I read testimonials like this. Three days and counting.

What if you get the tune for 87 and then put in 93? Same thing is sences the change and does its thing. Are there any updates for the tune or once its tuned it stays forever? I know with some other tunes they have to be updated. JC. Thanks for any help with this.

then your wasting money. No need for better gas with an 87 tune.

no, if you get a 87 tune, then Justin will optimize everything for 87 octane.
