07 tahoe rain sensor

So last year I had the windshield replaced and they didn't have the one with the rain sensor. Are there actually 2 different windshields or is it a catalog thing? Anyway replaced with standard windshield and tucked the wire in the headliner, put the sensor in the glove box. Is this worth having? I have also read that you need to replace the sensor with ever windshield,any truth to this?
I wouldn't mind it working , probably going to have to replace the windshield again soon so just curious

The sensor doesn't get replaced but there is a gel like piece that goes between the sensor and glass that gets replaced.

Is it worth having? Do you like the automatic wipers?

I'm solidly "meh" about it. My new company car ('25 Maverick) has manual wipers and I don't find myself feeling terribly sad about it. They're nice to have as a convenience, but certainly not a thing I can't live without .

Never had them before, just thinking if I get a new windshield would I like it? I dunno I rarely use the delay unless it's raining consistently, usually I just flip the button for a quick swipe. But if it's there already is it something people like or mor of an annoyance? Just looking for opinions thanks.

My opinion... it is a feature the truck came with so it may as well work.

I think it works fairly well 99% of the time.

Once in a while they will activate when a drop of water rolls across the sensor while driving and the windshield isn't really wet enough to need wiping. An example is after a quick shower and the wipers have already cleaned the glass but while driving some of the water remaining on the glass after the wipe will find its way in front of the sensor.

The fix for this is to just turn the wiper stalk to the Off position as the auto feature is only active when the stalk is left in the delay setting.

But 60% of the time, it works every time... lol

So what does it take to re-install it? Are there 2 different windshields or some adhesive to hold the sensor? I have the sensor and can easily grab the wires from the headliner? Thanks

The windshield designed for the rain sensor will have a open spot in the dot matrix area behind the rear view mirror and plastic clips for the sensor to lock into.

When you get the windshield replaced tell them your truck has the rain sensor. They should reinstall the sensor with a new gel pad as part of the replacement.
