I mean it's nice it's every 2 years normally, only been in places it was yearly and yearly added soon here. but that's shady penalizing you for having not ready monitors. wtf

That's about what I said to the Emissions Dept lady and she said "she doesn't make the rules".
And we have 10 more years before the Tahoe is off the hook for testing. Do Tahoes last 26 years?

No system can ever fail anyone it was never meant to protect.
In case anyone was wondering about how the priorities of the Emissions Dept informs the rules they come up with.

interesting.. what state do you live in. I wish er could sort out the specs for each state. I sware someone just passed theirs with the evap not ready before everyone else passed.

was yours just evap not ready. or others on the list not ready too.
I know in Ohio you will pass without the evap being ready as long as the CEL is not on.

In NH, you can have any one of the eight emissions monitors be in a "Not Ready" state, and pass the test... doesn't matter which sensor/monitor, as long as at least seven of them are "Ready".

But, after Jan 1st, 2026 it won't matter, as the state is doing away with yearly safety/emission inspections.

Lucky you but it makes sense. In as long as the program here has been collecting $20 a shot from me, and that period of time is well past my memory, the only failure I have had was after a CEL reset after a fuel pump replacement and the computer wasn't ready at the test. The program doesn't make sense to me other than collecting fees. The shop owners that conduct the tests that I have talked to don't have a positive attitude about. Imagine having to setup and dedicate a bay of their shop for that purpose and their compensation is $10 (half of the fee) a car. How can that possibly not hurt their business? One shop owner gave up on the program due to frequent requirement changes.

It makes sense if you vomit the emissions requirement in states that salt the heck out of the roads.

I get that the cost ruffles feathers, but safety regulations are typically written in blood.

Im happy to deal with a graduated system where new cars don't need emissions inspections for multiple years > to old vehicles needing them yearly.

Too many people will let their tires and brakes wear down to nothing without someone telling them to fix them.
