I have a 1999 2 door Tahoe with a manual transfer case. It has 4wd Hi, but when it is in the low range 4wd does not engage. Any ideas ?

So you hit the button and 4hi works fine?
Try putting the trans in neutral while rolling 2-3 mph and hit 4lo and report back.

Manual transfer case to me would have a lever on the floor and no buttons. I thought all Tahoes had buttons. If it's buttons what are the lights on the buttons doing?

Are you switching to 4 LO with the vehicle in Park? I don't believe you can go into 4 LO with the vehicle in Drive.

Right, @YukonGTmaster regardless if its manual tc or electronic you need to be moving slightly in neutral to complete the 4lo switch. And @Eman85 i think you are right, i dont remember there being a manual lever in a tahoe maybe im wrong but as far as i know they started electronic tc’s in the early 90’s.

FWIW, my '95 2-door Tahoe had a single lever on the floor, with lights and graphics to indicate your current gear.

It's been a while, but I think I was always in 'Park' [ but maybe in 'Neutral' sometimes] when I did any shifting of the transfer case.

Here's where the procedures in the owner's manual might help, available online for free from the Chevrolet web site. Get yours today! If it doesn't engage properly using these steps (depending on Auto or Manual 4wd), seek help from a drivetrain specialist. ;)

So all else has already failed?
