You had the pico test done, and failed? If so, sounds like you're the only one in this thread who has failed the test so far.

Cynical me thinks that the parameters of the test are such that there are going to be very few failures/engine replacements.
If I'm reading @0x_2a post correct engine passed pico test :emotions33:but engine replaced?

You may be right… but it wouldn’t make much sense.
Yep, my recall was part of a serial number check on the motor (because this isn't my first replacement motor). My motor serial was marked as mandatory replacement. Pico didn't matter but I asked to do it anyways. It's a load of BS... didn't pick up the lifter failure techs found. Motor was in bad shape with lots of ticks/knocks from passenger side bank... here's a recording I did two months ago of the motor if you'd like to compare: Video

Well just received the letter today from GM on the recall, what is interesting though is apparently they will be sending a second letter. It states that as soon as parts are available they will send another letter to then make an appointment with my dealer for the inspection.
Got the same letter today. Have to wait for a second letter.

Same here. My dealer is a real pain in the ass too - you have to beg them to do what you ask, so as of right now, they're not even performing inspections OR oil changes. Just had a family trip over over 500 miles (2023 yukon denali wiht 15k miles on it) and have another 1000 miles in july coming up.

Any sense for why your serial number was "marked" for replacement?

That's what I was afraid of -- that this Pico test doesn't tell anyone anything useful. At best, it's obviously not very predictive if it didn't sense your engine's active problems in-the-moment.

Just got my letter today. I have another call into my local dealership (that's much closer than the d'ship I purchased from) now that I have the letter in-hand, but they were completely unprepared to do anything 10 days ago when I previously checked in with them. I'm hoping they've since geared up, but who knows.

So looks like GM is doing this in batches. I just got this letter yesterday and confirmed it with my local dealership in WA.

Not everyone is immediately going to be added to the remedy list and there is no rhyme or reason for which list you get added on that they can tell. So either your truck keeps going and you take it in when you get your “official” remedy letter, or your engine blows up waiting and you have it towed in.

Agree 100%
Make that X 2!

I think the bean counters at GM figure the test shows an effort on their part and maybe the 0-40W might prevent a few detonations and give them a chance to kick the can down the road a bit more. At least they can say they tried to silence some of the critics.

As the saying goes “oil is cheaper than an engine”

I think my dealer and the service is pretty good but I really don’t want a service technician to remove and replace the engine- a pretty complex process that was originally done in the factory with the machinery and techs that specialize in installing these engines.

I love my truck and it’s been amazingly smooth and steady for 11k miles so far, no knocks, ticking or oil consumption and sounds like a V8 should at idle and full throttle. Very quiet cruising at 75mph.
I would rather get the 0-40W and the extended warranty, take my chances rather than get a new engine and maybe get new issues. The devil I know…..

So if I have a 25 with 7000 miles and clearly still under warranty, do I also switch to 0w-40?
I am wondering the same too. It's clearly going to be while before these 600,000 vehicles be checked. The bulletin is not really clear about this and I am not car savvy and don[t particularly like or trust the dealership where I purchased my Tahoe.

No letter yet, wipers won't stop. Wiper motor is a month away but I can get an engine "recall" today blah. blah. Yeah, fine. Engine is OK. You promise my 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty? Young lady has to check. Comes back with good news. Old lady across the waiting room suddenly seems attracted. She wants to know more. I ask young lady to refill washer tank and I get back on the road.

What I understand from the letter:
1) We will Pico when we have an engine laying around for replacement. If it fails, then engine will be replaced. Story over.
2) If it passes, then they do an oil change to 0/40. Most important: they change the cap.
3) Do they extend the warranty at this point? If so, to what?
4) So now, assuming I passed Pico, I am driving it carefree, just fatter, dumber, and happier. Until it fails.
5) Resale value sucks at this point, but at least I have a new cap.
6) If I am 1,000 miles from home and it fails what happens? I have not seen this addressed. I am about to be out of some major dollars for hotel rooms, airfare, or something.
7) Or.....do I just say fork it and have it rebuilt by a quality engine rebuilder.

I sold my care and trouble free 2011 GMC Yukon XL with 203,000 miles to get to this 2023. Because I was putting it on the road. Probably 10,000/15,000 miles/year.

I am open to wisdom..........or whatever.

4) Until it fails.

How do you know the engine will fail?

5) Resale value sucks at this point, but at least I have a new cap.

You also will have your engine inspected by a GM dealer, and the warranty on the current engine (if not replaced under the safety recall), will be extended for 10 years or 150,000 miles.

6) If I am 1,000 miles from home and it fails what happens?

If the engine fails within the 150,000 mile or 10-year warranty extension, you would have the vehicle towed to a Chevrolet dealer using the Chevrolet roadside assistance. Yes, you’d be stranded. The current new-car warranty does not include expenses, but a GMPP does.

If the engine fails 1,000 miles from home - after the 150,000 mile or 10-year warranty extension, you’re on your own.

If you purchase a GMPP, the plans can include rental coverage and other expenses. You may want to investigate that purchase?

I’m not sure what you don’t understand about the safety recall and the actions that may be taken by GM?

Have you had engine issues with your vehicle?

Eighthtry,
Well documented and well put.
-- I fully agree with #1, #4 and #6.
I sort of wish I never knew of this recall, as it hangs over 'our heads' with a collective When / If !
I've tried to search on GM's site for answers to #6, as that is what worries me the most. https://experience.gm.com/ownercenter/recalls
I'll be taking a 1,000 mile trip soon, passing through some sparse areas, where I can imagine a GMC / Chevy Dealer could be 100+ miles away... How would this be adrressed?
So your number 6 is by far the biggest issue or concern for me.

If someone has a GMC phone number that could be used when / if, I for one would appreciate it.

Valid points, however I shouldn't have to buy an Extended Warranty for a $80k-90k vehicle. And boy, these plans aren't cheap.
$3,422 for 48 month / 80,000 miles, zero deductabile
$3,064.... $100 deductible
$2,781..... $250 deductible

But then it does cover rental, towing, etc for the Silver Plan, $3,000 for peace of mind
