That makes no sense. Everyone likes money lol. Repetition is what makes you money as a dealer tech. Especially warranty work.
Not when you are getting warranty labor rates. I worked in shops, 10 years as a tech and 30+ as a service advisor/manager. Working on the same thing over and over again, would remind me of assembly line work.

When I got out of the service in 1975, I went back to KC, Mo. and in 1976 Ford Motor Company assembly plant in Claycomo, Mo., offered me a job because I was a veteran. I thought about 30 minutes and said NO. Did not want to do the same thing over and over again, day after day. That is another reason why I never ever worked at a dealership. I stayed with the mom and pop shops and it was great for 40+ years. Could I have made more money at FOMOCO or a dealership, sure, but I was not entirely motivated by $. I liked fixing things that other people had a tough time with. I liked educating techs and customers. I wish I could say I was ALWAYS right, but I can't. I happen to be human.

I have talked to dealer techs and most of them do not like warranty work because of what I just said.

Yeah I wasnt a tech a the 70s but warranty vs customer pay wasnt that different....but maybe the 70s were different.

Just confirmed based on the GM Special Coverage bulletin N252494003 that for the 10 year/150,000 warranty extension coverage, these are a few of the requirements and limitations.

The inspected per the Recall must be completed.

"If the vehicle has a valvetrain or other top end issue, it is NOT COVERED under this special coverage."

Only bottom end engine problems will be covered for 10 years/150,000 miles.

Warranty coverage is regardless of ownership, warranty is extended to any owner of the vehicle within the 10 years/150,000 miles
So this begs the question, as your 10/150 approaches do you get another knock sensor test? Or as far as that’s concerned, anytime between now and then?

Warranty work does pay nowhere the hourly rare as customer pay does. That's why techs hate warranty work and are NOT thrilled about this recall

Now the labor amount (time) can be slightly less when its warranty.

Again people talking about things they have no idea about. Love it.

Most of us hate doing repetitive work but polishing mirrors is a job I could see myself doing. :)
I mean that's the part about working at a dealer. You see the same cars day in and day out. I guess you could work at a independent if you need variety and wanna lose your ass as a flat rate tech. To each their own

You obviously did not listen to your mother.

I did not fabricate results, I showed results of a very ideal situation where I even claimed I was Hypermiling. Nothing wrong there. As I mentioned "24 MPG, gotta love this, but the moment I need to climb a grade, this story is over!".

You know and I know @BADRIDES was talking about the end result. If you want to nit pick and pick apart everything anyone says and that makes you feel better, you be you.

Then in your next response to @BacDoc, your love of the dealer shops comes out, I have heard that tone so many times from dealer techs. When I ran those independent shops, I would never hire a dealer tech because then I would have to try and break all the "short cut habits" they pick up at the dealers. You may be an exception and if so, more power to you. You said it best when you said, "To each there own". That is the point of some of what you want to disagree about. Your way is your way but that does not make it the best way, but it could be for you. I know one thing for sure, there are a lot of Prima Donna's that work at and for dealers.

Yeah dealers are great for a tech. Best tools. Best factory service manuals. State of the art training. Flat rate pay can suck but thats the beauty of having warranty work. You always have work.

To each their own.

So spouse and I have had multiple conversations about this topic. While she enjoys her '24 Yukon XL she expresses concerns about the reliability given the nature of her use. Living in a small remote town where most of her local driving is less than 10 minutes of operation. Then the quarterly trips of 2-3k through sparsely populated areas along the Canadian border. Plus the fact that the nearest GMC dealer is 2.5 hours away in the summer, can be much longer with winter weather for half the year. All this has her expressing doubts in the expectation that this would be a long-term vehicle for her. We're patiently waiting to see what develops in the recall but don't have high expectations.

Techs get paid the same hourly rate but warranty time is NOwhere close to customer pay time on how many hours they get paid for the job. I bill out the work so I know.

Dealers have the best manufacturer specific diagnostic equipment and tools and specialty tools. Go back to sleep man. Lol

Also as a GM tech i got paid really well compared to independents. Only place that could potentially pay better would be boutique speciality shops. Belive me otherwise I wanted to work for toyota but chevy/gmc was where the money was at and still is.
