My new-to-me 2007 Denali center console lid does not spring up a little when I press the latch to open it. All others I've owned had a spring assist on the hinge...does ours have that?

If so, I will buy a new hinge...they are only $17, but wanted to know first.

Thanks!

I believe that mine has a spring in the hinge. It doesn't open on its own, but there is a feeling of 'assist' when I open it.

I don't think mine does.

Thanks for the answers. All other GM consoles I have owned....you pressed the button to release the lid (lid popped up a bit), then lifted the lid.

Not a big deal...more curious than anything.

The lid on my '13 LTZ has springs. They're only good for keeping the lid fully up and don't provide any "pop" when you release the latch.

The clips inside the console that hold the spring are what break. I know exactly what you mean by popping up a bit. When mine broke it stopped doing that and was a little more loose than it should have been. Often happens when people lean on the center console to pull their weight into the vehicle. It’s a bit tedious to remove, as you have to damn near take apart the entire center console just to get to that part.

thank you for the detailed info. At least now I know why I sometimes have to use two hands to open it. I was thinking about buying a lid from a wrecker on ebay, but have no guarantee it will not also be broken.

Yeah, that’s an issue with them. I ordered one and it arrived looking like it was off the back of a truck after being ripped out with a crowbar versus actually removing the screws. They gave me a full refund and at least the hinge and center console latch button worked. The remainder of it was pretty wasted, but luckily I ended up with the part I needed…so I didn’t complain.

Funny thing was, the photo taken from inside the vehicle matched the item that arrived. Same spills and scuff markings, only problem was their method of removal. There are a couple reputable scrap yards on eBay that I’ve had decent luck with.
