Shops are not liable if they do the requested work correctly and something goes wrong after … however … Shops are *definitley* liable for faulty or incorrectly performed work. The problem for you as a consumer will be… burden of proof.

Even if you could prove they made a mistake and they are liable doesn’t necessarily put then on the hook to drop you a fresh n crisp new trans in there. They may be required to only remedy the situation to make it to the condition it was before the work was performed.. so so many factors could go into this as you are asking a “legal” question and “legal” matters vary so broadly from state to state

Have you contacted the shop … you say it’s been 4 days.. every second that tics before you bring up the issue lessens the likelihood they will “help” you.

That’s all fine & well, but if it was on Wednesday, and the problem has persited since you picked it up, that’s 2 work days that have passed plus Saturday that they may or may not have worked. You can say well my kids this and my job that, but that is only going to help you in the “man i feel for you” department from other people …

.. from the shop’s perspective that argument will help you exactly zero. Contact the shop immediately (ie: first thing Monday a.m.!!) and see if you can work it out. Every minute that passes the shop has more of a case to say “wasn’t me” ..

Fwiw I’m only telling you this in *your* own best interest.. not the shops.. good luck

I’m a little slow. Can you break down your post into at least a few sentences so it’s easier to follow for someone that’s a little slow like me?

Who changed the transmission cooler? You or the shop?

Who determined that it was overfilled? You or the shop?

Have you actually contacted the shop about this in the 4 days of it running poorly?

The shop can’t fix a problem they know nothing about. By continuing to drive it with these problems is not a good decision as they can simply say that you knew there was a problem and continued to drive it and exacerbated the issues so it’s your fault for some of the damages. I get needing a vehicle, but life simply sucks sometimes and you need to get things taken care of despite the inconvenience it may cause. This is like saying you got a flat tire after someone installed it but you needed to drive it and now the rim is ruined so they should have to pay for the rim as well. You have a responsibility to minimize possible damage as soon as you notice the problem or you will likely be liable for covering the repairs out of your own pocket.

If you are getting all the other warning lights, it may be worth while to check your cable connections on your battery, alternator, and ground locations as low voltage conditions can cause issues like these as well.

This post gives me a headache. How do you know it is overfilled and when did you know it? Don't care if she wants to drive it or not, park it till you get with the shop and please do a better job of explaining to them than you did here.

So, the transmission was slipping before the cooler line was replaced? If so, then the replacement of the cooler line, I assume it was leaking, and then refill, may not fix a transmission that was already slipping. Do they teach punctuation and sentence structure in Canada? Very hard to follow your "one long statements".

So a business called Ok Tire changed your cooler line?

Punctuation and Capitalization goes a long way in helping people understand what you’re trying to communicate.

Why did you have them change the cooler line in the first place? You say it “was still slipping when shifting”, was it slipping before you had the work done?

Changing the cooler line would do nothing to fix a slipping transmission.

What was the condition of the fluid before you had the work done?

It feels to me that there is something missing here and we are not getting the whole story of how the vehicle ran before all the work was done.

@NickTransmissions - any thoughts on this? Would simply over filling the fluid cause this?

Ok this is my wife’s vehicle and I am the one who has to constantly repair it. The cooling line was leaking slowly so we purchased a new line. Made an appointment to get ok tire to change the line. Apon driving it home from the shop it was slipping and hard shifting, so I pulled over and checked the fluid level was way overfull ! So I informed my wife about this and she said well I need my vehicle and continues using it even though it’s slipping .

It was slipping because the fluid level was low from the leak that is why we changed the line

If it was slipping before, the damage to the transmission was probably already done before the cooler line was replaced. This is likely not the result of any work the shop did and they will tell you as much.

I would start looking for a different transmission whether it is just a transmission, or it comes installed in a new vehicle.
