I’ve been a loyal Chevrolet guy for about 40 years now. Aside from my first k5 blazer I’ve always ordered my trucks to my specifications
I’ve always ordered the same basic truck but I’ve always had some version of the max towing package, but never a sun roof. I don’t like them, I think they can leak, I think they weaken the integrity of the roof and they can break..(glass after all)and because I’m tall they took away headroom.. I’ve configured a 25 Tahoe high country. I really want the max towing package but I can’t get it without the roof. GM has done a pretty good job of designing the truck, where the headroom is not the issue it once was.
Should I get a vehicle with a sunroof that I don’t want or do without the two speed transfer case that I’ve always had. Do I really need the two speed transfer case. I don’t do any serious four wheeling. Rock crawling or the such.
What’s the opinion?

I own a 2005 Tahoe Z71 and will not buy new but I also have a sun roof and don't like it but it was there when I bought it. Have to do religious seal maintenance to give it a chance to not leak but I always have the idea that it will one day at the worst of times.

Can you get what you want in a GMC?

I have a friend at Chevy that I’ve dealt with for thirty five of those forty years. He’s never done wrong by me and I can’t see buying what I think may be my last Tahoe without going through him. I say last because, of my age and simply the cost in a few years will be 100k and that will price me out.
I don’t think gmc has any different packaging.

My ‘23 tahoe had a roof… and it was pretty good sized. I just got a ‘24 yukon.. no roof. I could see a rock on the road taking it out very fast….

I've had eight to 10 vehicles in the last 15 years and most all of them had sunroofs.... None of them gave me any problems. Sunroof technology has come a long way since the leaky old flip tops of years ago. If that was the only thing that held me back from buying the vehicle, forget about it and get what you want. Pull the shade over it and forget it's up there.

I don't like sunroofs. Our Premier has one and head room isn't a problem.

We've had a few cars with them and never had a problem with the glass breaking.

It makes things simpler on the production line and grouping parts together and all that to have standardized option groups but it would be nice especially for what vehicles cost these days to not force some of these things that not everyone wants. Especially when it's something like the trailer tow packages that seem to trigger it.

I have/had a sunroof in all my trucks. I prefer them mainly because they let in a good amount of natural light. I really don’t open them often.

FYI, you can get a Yukon Denali w/ Max Trailering and No Sunroof, need to select the Denali + Advanced Tech Package...Stickers out to $92,105

Oh, and BTW, if you are towing anything with a tongue weight north of 400 lbs, I highly recommend the Air Suspension...$1K option.

It's more than a 2-speed transfer case. Not sure on the '25 platform, but on the '21+ (with gas engine) the max tow package gets you a heavy duty cooling package. Also, in the infotainment you get a trailering menu which provides syncing trailer TPMS, logs miles and fuel economy for your different trailers, etc. I don't believe that trailering menu is present when you don't get the max tow package.

I don’t tow often. The last thing I towed weighed I at about 800 lbs including the trailer. The know that the package has more than the transfer case and those features are important to me too.
I’m 6 feet 5 inches and weigh in at 240 lbs. The loss of those 2 inches of headroom are a big deal to me. I sat I. A premiere Tahoe today and the left side of the frame of the roof is the annoying part, not the glass roof or shade itself. Without the roof I have at least 5 inches of space.
The only thing I can say is that my stepmoms equinox is the same but I’m reasonable comfortable in that.
I’m going to try and reconfigure the HC with the tech package.

No luck. Almost every important option includes the sun roof.
Common Chevy. unmarry the max trailering package. From other options

As someone who feels your pain- I'm 6'8"- I have the sunroof in both of my SUVs and have no issues with space. The seats can be lowered.

Unless you are married to Chevy, you have the attached option for GMC...no sunroof.

I’m 6’5”. 240 lbs. my head room without the roof is about 5”. With roof about 3”. Again. It’s not the glass or even the shade so much as it’s the left side of the roof. The part with the grab handle that’s just annoying. I don’t touch it but it seems cramped because half the room is gone.
I’m explaining it wrong. I think.

I just got a text from my friend at Chevy. I might be in luck.

Spec sheet seems to say. Sun roof now only available with sun and tow package.

ETA. No luck. No changes.

While I don't disagree that the construction has come a long way, it may be worth nothing that, unless you got used vehicles, going through that many vehicles in that many years reduces the likelihood that you were the current vehicle owner if issues ever popped up.

With that said, I have a roof on my '23 Suburban and it's been issue free for two years. First year was kept outside in the AZ sun though it's now kept in a UT garage so hopefully that preserves the seals better against the harsh sun/winter cold.

My main complaint with a sunroof is losing the roof handle above the doors which I frequently held onto when in a burb without a roof; it still has the grab handle on the front side of the door to help with getting into the vehicle though that's too far away to use as a grab point when sitting in the seat unless you have longer arms than I do.

Those handles are still there roof or not. I actually wish they were on the A Pillar really, more helpful there in my opinion.....
