I just replaced my transfer case input shaft seal and output shaft seal, and I'm still leaking fluid.

I just want to delete the transfer case completely. How would I go about doing that? Would I just need a transmission extension housing?

I'm confused and pissed at the same time. I have a leak and a bad vibration around 45-55mph.

I don't want to be just throwing money at it cause money is not plentiful in my current situation.

Boy, it's actually more involved than one would think.

The 2wd and 4x4 transmissions are actually different on the output shaft. So you either have to tear down the transmission completely to change the output shaft or swap transmission to a 2wd. Your rear driveshaft would have to get lengthened or swapped from a 2wd truck.

Not sure on the front differential though. Just remove the front driveshaft along with transfer case? Would that be okay?

And probably some speed sensors manipulation otherwise you will get error codes.

I would either invest in time to diagnose it properly or take it to a shop to diagnose/repair. Drive line vibrations are challenging to find. Start with the typical wear-prone items such as tires and u joints.

Only sensor in the front drive line for the 4WD is the actuator in the diff. If it is a mechanical plunger type it can just be removed from the diff and hung up and secured inside the engine compartment. As long as it's still plugged in it should not throw up any codes. If it is a thermal actuator that may be a different story, or maybe not. Speed sensors are in the wheel bearings.

This does not speak for any sensors/actuators in the transfer case.

I'm thinking u joints or a shot transfer case. I had a Crown vic with shot axle shafts and would hum but it would leak on the inner side of a which ever wheel it was leaking from. I only see trans fluid on the underside of truck. Really I have trans fluid blow by on the back. Literally on the back glass and lift gate.

Upon researching and youtube videos, I came to the conclusion it was the transfer case input shaft seal. (When I first replaced the seals)
1A auto video shows that if you undo the fill plug and fluid comes gushing out that I have a bad input shaft seal that's allowing trans fluid to get into the transfer case and cause it to become pressurized and leak thru the t case adapter

Your transmission fluid and your 4x4 transfer case fluids are (or should be) different. The 4x4 AUTO transfer case calls for blue Auto Trak II fluid, so it's very different from red transmission fluid. Did you see a mix of those when you drained the transfer case?

As far as the vibration, you can jack the rear end and run the truck with the wheels spinning on the air (chock the front wheels for safety). Start removing the tires, then driveshaft to see if you can pinpoint the source. If vibration is still there, then it could be T-case/transmission.

I once spun out and hit a curb on a patch of ice on my 99 Silverado. I didn't think much about it. Several weeks later I heard a squealing. I took it to my mechanic and he lifted the rear end and ran it, then quickly pointed out to my rear passenger side wheel wobbled and asked what happened...then I remembered. So he replaced the axle shaft/bearing/seal and sent me on my way...

By the sound of all the replies, imma just have to take it to. Trans shop and have them diagnose. Sucks ass that I have to do that but I'm left with no other choice. I was hoping for a quick delete, but that's not in the picture. I will update my post as I find out what's going on.

Drive shaft slip yoke wear (and transfer case output shaft ) can damage the transfer case seal prematurely. Since I had replaced the transfer case about a year earlier I replaced the driveshaft (with slip yoke) and so far the transfer case seal leaks have stopped.

Turned out the transfer case adapter was cracked. So I had that refixed today. As for the humming I will post if I still have it or if it has lessened. I'm hoping I don't have to rebuild it cause cash is not plentiful in my current situation.
But apparently from some youtube surfing it appears rebuilding it ain't all that hard. The only part about rebuilding it is the plates you have to stack. Idk too much about that part of the process. But bearings and aligning ain't a problem.

Any insight on doing that part would be cool. I know I'm going to have to do it in the near future cause that fluid that came out this 2nd time was super flaky. Looked like I was getting ready to paint a lowrider lol.

Make sure it's not the case issue. My 2004 had the case issue where the internal oil pump wears a hole through the case and the oil slowly drips out. This is a known failure in these years. There is no seal leaking the case has a hole in it.and the oil drruels out of it.

I pulled my transfer case out and swapped all the gears and clutches to the new case. But I would just put some JB weld or something over the leak oil if I hadtodoit again. New process 246 transfer case should never have done this.
