Hey ya'll new member here. Just bought a 2003 Chevy Tahoe LT 4x4 in the dark grey color. Super excited to start building this car up. I want to enhance it's offroad capabilities but also keep it reasonable for the street-highway as it is my daily driver. Anyone have recommendations for wheels that look good for more of an off-road inspired build? I would like to go slightly bigger than stock with 17's and probably 285/70/17 tires or something similar. Lift and level will happen later once I can save more money for it. A setup that works with the stock suspension and still look good with a 2 inch lift and level would be ideal. Anyone got suggestions? Pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I personally like these GM accessory wheels. 18 inch. This is what they look like on these generation trucks. Probably would look nice on that body style too, especially since it's dark gray

This is sort of what I am going for if you can imagine it in the dark grey color. I have chrome trim and bumpers though so I'm not sure a satin black wheel would look the best. I want something with some dish, in a mesh style. If I could find something with polished lip/accents and black centers it might tie the aesthetics of the chrome together. Or maybe I just say eff it and try to delete the chrome with plasti-dip or something else.

I think something with accents would look good with the chrome. I'm a fan of the factory look of the trim.

I had found a local guy on Craigslist that was selling four near pristine rims off his 2020 Tahoe.

I had chrome trim on mine too and I really like the look (of the three good ones, at least) on my 04.
I just destroyed one and had to grab a crappy replacement from the junkyard in a pinch... I'll probably finds a better one to replace that later this summer.

They are 17" rims which, with 265/70 R17 AT tires, were the original upgrade that came with the Z71 in 04.

20" tires were too expensive.

17 inch tires are not too bad in price.

It looks like this: "Modern" compared to the original 04 wheels, but in kind of an old-school way, i think...

I have a set of these looking for a home. One of them has a wicked balancing issue though.

Thanks! Too bad you are so far away and I spent $1,000 for tires that I was hoping to push off until summer plus $100 for a junk rim I wasn't expecting to need...

Not being political at all, but I feel like I am in a hole that is getting deeper by the week... External increases in everything, over the last year especially, have me spread thinner than the cheese on a store-bought frozen pizza!

I still have front end work (upper control arms, idler control arm, Pitman arm and front wheel alignment) that needs doing soon as well. Still trying to figure out how I will be able to get all that done too...

Sorry. Not looking for a pity party...

Just facing a reality, that I'll put up with the junkyard wheel until I am financially in a better place and able to spend money on something cosmetic.

Thanks anyway.

I misunderstood you, you mean you are looking for a set? I thought you meant somebody else was. I see your avatar already has them on there. Is that a photoshop.

I bought a set of 4 from a guy in town for $350, who upgraded his 2010 Tahoe. They were almost pristine. Excellent condition!

I was running 16" ancient Silverado beater rims with 245 series mismatched tires.

The newer set form the 2010 was great deal for me. $370 for the set. Plus, they had Michelin LTX M+S 265/70 R17 that still had some life in them.
I was hoping to get them to hold me until summer.

I had a bolt come off a rear caliper. The caliper dug into the rim and pierced through to the inside. Ruined rim and flat tire.

I needed a rim and a tire. The Michelins were getting a little thin, so I was looking at two new tires at a minimum. Since the others weren't far behind... I ended up borrowing money to get all four and be done with tires for a while.

So, for now, I am running 4 new Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S 265/70 R17 on 3 beautiful 2010 Tahoe rims and one really crappy (but same style and size) rim from the junkyard.

Looks hideous, but I have a set of four really good tires on all four corners for what is left of "winter".

I will look to get rid of the junkyard rim, hopefully later this year. I would likely be looking for 2 of these 2010-style wheels. One to replace the junkyard rim and one to replace the super-rusty spare tire rim.

Thanks!

I am sure you will want to get rid of them sooner.

P.S.: I love the 89 Sub in your profile! If I get another truck some day, I would love to get one of the square bodies. If I hit the lottery... A 1980's K5 Blazer! Always my dream truck... I wouldn't mind an old-school suburban either. They are all super!

Are any of the factory 2015-2020 wheels legitimately CHROME? I see that it appears in actuality that the majority of them use a sneaky chrome hub cap. So, I'm not so sure anymore!
