2022 Tahoe / Yukon

Just curious if anyone knows... I'm seeing 2022 Tahoe's and Yukon's starting to pop up on dealer lots here and there all across the country. Some of the models are pretty close to what I'm looking for. One was exactly what I was looking for but 2,000 miles away and then no longer listed the next day.

However, both the Chevy and GMC website don't even mention the 2022 models, and dealers in my area are surprised why I'm even asking. I get that GM has to allocate their capacity to dealers, and some dealers aren't getting allocated yet or have VERY limited allocation.

I'm really curious why Chevy/GMC website are not recognizing the 2022 model though. Will the official sites be updated shortly? Searching at each dealer website to see what they have is pretty time consuming.


For the salesman at dealers, they act like 2022's are not even in production, or it's just a silly question entirely. That's a separate point entirely.

GM is not going to promote the 22's until they sell the 21's that are wasting away in the elements. There a tens of thousands of shy built Tahoes and Yukons waiting for chips. The mice and bugs will have a field day with these rigs sitting outside for so long.

I gotta question this, too. I'm sure that they have a bulk of 2021's sitting in lots outside the plant in Arlington waiting for chips. Even in my line of work, I see that as an opportunity to rebuild those '21s into the '22s that are currently in demand. The cost of rebuilding them would very likely be cheaper in the long run than sitting on them waiting for 2021 demand to appear, when there's higher demand for the 22's.

Instead of $70k in limbo that may never be sold, spend the $20k to rebuild it, and then sell it for $75k. You lose $15k (in this example), but the risk of not selling the '21 is a lot higher. For the most part, engine, body panels, drivetrain, suspension, tires and most wheels are all the same. The list of changes (we've all seen them) are mostly the tech on the inside - some of which will be software based.

I would think that the lower trim LS and LT models would be the first to be rebuilt. Premium and High Country at more carefully hand-picked rate.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not trying to argue with anyone. Just passing the time with some genuine conversation.

Even if there are 10000 of them, which I HIGHLY doubt…that’s only 200 per state. They would be gone in a week if they were on lots ready to buy….

My guess is that all of the 2022 you see at dealers have been factory ordered and already accounted for. I put my order in for a 2022 Tahoe RST in early October and it is supposed to ship to the dealer this upcoming week...

Having seen the sales of full size Chevy's vs Ford / Toyota I completely agree that the demand is still very strong for the brand. Compared to year or 2 prior sales are soft though, and understandably why. It's just getting to a point where how far into 2022 will GM still sell a 2021 as a "new" vehicle? 200 per state is a good perspective as well.

Are there any people here who have good intel around the Arlington plant that can vouch for the # of vehicles sitting in lots waiting on chips? In most cases, that's privileged info within GM, so unless someone can drive by or cough up confidential info I doubt that anyone really knows how many are sitting around. Would be interesting to understand, though.

Good point about all the ones showing up being pre-orders. It's a lot though. I found that I can get a decent search result going through AutoTrader.com to find 2022's coast to coast. As of tonight, there's 488 2022 Z71's. When I flip the search to 2021's, then it's 436 Z71's all other filters equal. So about 50/50 chance of getting one or the other.

I just find it really interesting.

Demand for full size SUVs is incredibly high right now. However, supply should start to alleviate the demand by Q1 of 2022. Not just based on increased GM production, but also on the increase production of the revised Ford Expedition as well as the new entry into the market segment - Jeep Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer.

I tried this exact thing last week but for the 2022 vehicle overview/information page on the GMC website but to no avail. Hopefully they will release the updated website soon. The updated 2022 Escalade page was released a few weeks back. Nothing so far for the Yukon or Tahoe.

Pretty sure they couldn’t “redo” the already made 2021 models into 2022 models as VIN plates are already affixed to the vehicles.

Very similar situation as when the '15s came out mid-2014. Took a good 12+ months to finally see some supply at less than MSRP, and another 6-12 months after that to finally see real discounts.
I suspect the timeline this time will be a little longer but we know two things 1) GM has said their priority is not affecting the supply of the large SUVs due to profit margin and 2) Once the new hype dies down, supply should be able to be build back up resulting in better deals, maybe even discounts.

I'm excited that the 6.2L in the AT4 is only a $2,615 option. Just a grand more than a sunroof!

Thanks for the tip! Worked great. Is this a glitch? I'm looking for a second row bench. I thought I'd found two options, but it seems that the search filters may not be working correctly. It shows that it seats 8, but is missing the second row bench.

You have to manually switch the text in the hyperlink of the web address. GM does not have the 2022 model year filterable yet.
Alternatively, just click the link I shared above and it will pop you out to 2022 Model Year search results. Just need to adjust your zip code and other options (packages, color, etc).

Kinda to my earlier thought, are the constraints overhyped at this point here without current fact??

I am told my 2022 Ultimate order is as ordered, with no constraints on diesel or air ride. I admit I am holding my breath a bit until it actually lands, but hopefully, it comes as the dealer says. They shared VIN# with me today. Ordered September 3, build week was October 11th..
