I was recomended this by Sonic Electronix. Seems like the Cat's Ass of LOC's that can also enhance the output of the Factory HU. For those looking to upgrade but remain stock up front, here is an option.

MTX Audio reQ-5 (re-Q 5)
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_10834_MTX+Audio+reQ-5+-re-Q+5<-sup>-.html

Will also give you a line in connector with it's own volume control that bypasses the HU all together. I like the fact that it is a wire harness and has enough output channels for front/rear/and sub.

Me? I am bypassing all of this and gonna go HU upgrade as I build my system. Gonna do these items.

JL Audio HD900/5 AMP
JL Audio HD-RLC 1 REMOTE for AMP
Alpine Type S DVC 2 Ohm 10" Subs
FOCAL Access 6.5 in all 4 doors.

Still searching for HU but will go Single DIN to save some bucks. I really only need Ipod integration and pre-amp outs.

Depending on what HU you get, most good ones have ipod intergration and allow you to control everything from movies, pictures and music...mine does...
whats your budget?

Oh man, low...as I am spending a bundle on amps/subs/speakers/etc... Plus it seems you pay for the Double Din. I am gonna stick to 'budget' $3-400 for the headunit to include ipod adapter and GM adapter thingy. Found a few with built-in Bluetooth so thats a bonus. I don't need movies or nav. We take the wifey's audi for long trips.

thats fine. i bought a cheap hu that sounds great and has any feature you can think of for my infinity
its actually a power acoustik... i was gonna do the soundstream version but its the same unit just different name plate.. hell PA owns soundstream now anyways.. why pay an extra $120.
but the dual din unit i put in my g35 is a Power Acoustik PTID-7350NRBT
paid $300 for it.
they have single din versions too. i love it and for the price.. im not gonna complain. i have alpine type-x speakers in it with a soundigital 1000.4ab

valor has good cheap single din hu's that are touchscreen and integrate with the ipod fine. clarion too under $400

other than that just get a regular hu rather than 1 with a screen and you have endless possibilities under $400

Nice, yeah I have been out of the makret on HU for so long that I don't even know those names. When I was into it, Eclipse was owned by Fujitsu and top of the line. I loved my old Eclipse HU's.

i miss the old eclipse stuff. i had one of the top of line hu's with the 8v outputs. that was a great sounding deck... new eclipse is alright but not the same pristine quality
