Wife wants to upgrade to a bigger suv. We are looking at the 21 Tahoe or the 4Runner. Does the Tahoe have a timing chain or belt. Also is it a cvs transmission or a standard. Had issues in the past with the cvs transmissions

In your other post you said you were leaning toward the 20 Tahoe.
Yea after reading on here not sure about the 21. If I get a really good deal on a 20 then I will go with that. If not then it will be a 21.

Well, you're going to get plenty of good deals on the '20. No one buying new wants a car with an outdated body style the day they buy it. Buy the '21. Have some stones.

GM LS engines all use timing chains, no belts. No rubber band crap transmissions either, these things are built to tow and have real transmissions. 4Runner is a much smaller vehicle, the Tahoe is the garage friendly full-size vehicle. Completely different vehicles and I would never even consider a 4Runner as a family hauler.

Thanks. Also noticed the gas mileage is better with the Tahoe. Now just trying to decide a 20 or a 21

Tough call, lots of new tech in the '21s and they are much bigger inside and out; with the carry-over engine and trans, those will not have first year bugs to work out. They are working out other bugs though, including literal bugs!

The '20s are obviously a mature design and relatively trouble free, smaller inside and out and get better mileage because they are smaller.

So are all the new features and improvements that important to you and yours?

There aren’t many 20’s left. All I found was the cheap ones with hardly any options. The 21 uses the 10 speed developed by Ford and GM. It’s a heavy duty for towing.

the 2021s are night and day better than the 2020 and older model. The 3rd row is actually usable in a 2021. The ride is awesome also with the independent rear suspension. I had both side by side when I sold my wife on the 2021. Compare and see what you think.

In five years, the resale value on an old body style 2020 Tahoe will be much lower than a new body style 2021 Tahoe.

Except when it’s got 600 miles on it and won’t start as it sits at the dealer.......:)

What they're trying to say but not saying is that the 10 speed trans (far preferrable to the 8) was available in some trim levels as far back as 2018, but your run of the mill Tahoe didnt' get it until 21.
