For those around Denver, my wife just received an email notice from her employer, University of Colorado - Anschutz, that there is a ring targeting older, full-size SUVs, mostly Tahoe/Yukons. They are punching out the door lock, ripping open the steering column and trying to force the ignition lock. Usually they have been unsuccessful in stealing the vehicle and resorted to ransacking it, although they have made off with the vehicle in some instances. Hmmm, sounds kind of familiar. Anyway there have been a number of these incidents in the last few weeks in the metro area, mostly parking lots and parking garages, so you guys might want to be careful where you park.

Got the Tahoe back today. The dealer seems to have gotten everything repaired and sorted out electrically. There's still a scratch on the door they missed and somebody scuffed up the underhood fuse box cover, but otherwise seems to be good. I'll have to file a supplemental claim for the scratch, and I'm going to try to get insurance to pay for a new owner's manual, since in my mind that's part of the car.

The service manager told me that the very next day after I dropped mine off, somebody brought in a 2004 with identical damage. He said he'd swear the same person was responsible for both vehicles.

Wouldn't doubt it.

Glad you got yours back. I won't get my first truck back until Monday or Tuesday, next week. Not only did the crook destroy the ignition cylinder, he also destroyed the holder for it. Waiting on THAT part to come in and then she's done. Then I turn in my Silverado for the same effing repairs.

Are you adding an alarm to yours?

They had to replace that part on mine too, but fortunately they found one here in Denver. They did re-use the column cover though. It doesn't look bad, but some of the pins inside are broken. Have to see if it will stay together and in place.

I'm not planning to add an alarm at the moment, but I'm still thinking about it.

I forgot to add, I use a Club on all my vehicles -all the time. I wonder how effective that is? I expect it to be a fairly decent deterrent.

The weakest link with the club is the steering wheel itself. Literally takes 10 secs to cut through the rim of the steering wheel with a hacksaw blade. The club will slide right off.
