16' Yukon A/C Problems

About a month ago my A/C started blowing hot air, I bought one of those A/C recharge kits from autozone and it only lasted a few weeks before blowing hot air again, so there is an obvious leak somewhere. I took it to a local mechanic but they wanted to charge 110$ just to look at it and tell me what's wrong.

Whenever I turn the vehicle on and the A/C starts up there is a subtle hissing sound coming from inside the dash, it sounds like a loose air hose or something. When I turn the A/C fan speed up the hissing sound gets louder.

Any help would be much appreciated.

To be honest, $110 to COMPLETELY go through the AC system and check EVERYTHING is actually not a bad price at all. Especially if they can pinpoint the leak. Most places will also apply that diagnostic charge towards the cost of the repair if you decide to let them fix it. That's how the Honda dealership got me back when I had an older Honda Civic. Paid $100 or so for a diagnosis, then they told me the repair would be $225. Or basically an additional $125 on what I was already paying. I did a quick search for the parts they said needed to be replaced, and it was almost $100 in parts alone, plus I would have to get it recharged after replacing the parts that were bad. So I just went ahead and had them fix it all for $225.
Now when the compressor went out on my Suburban, every shop I took it too told me it needs a new compressor as soon as they heard it running. I was getting quotes anywhere from $1600 up to $2300 for everything. I ended up buying all the parts from Rockauto and replaced everything myself then took it to get vacuum tested and recharged. My cost doing most of it myself was under $600. So I I saved over a grand, plus I was even able to get all genuine AC Delco parts at that price too.

Negative, It's been out of warranty for a while. I'm thinking about taking it to the dealer I got the vehicle from and see if they can pinpoint the problem without charging me just to look at it.

I contacted the BBB and GM paid 1/2 of the condenser warranty since I was past the mileage point on the warranty.

That's awesome, I'm surprised GM would spend a penny on solving their own problem. The only thing is, I'm not 100% sure that the condenser is the culprit, I would hate to spend the money on a new condenser and spend a day installing it and then find out it wasn't broke to begin with.

Yes, I'm aware. I wish I was still under warranty, I would have been at the dealer the first day I started having A/C problems.
