I have a 2017 Escalade and apple carplay worked beautifully with my iphone XS, including Waze. Upgraded to new iPhone 11 Pro Max (latest iOS 13.1.2) and no more Waze. In fact the only apps that come up on carplay are apple maps, and SirusXM. I used to be able to see multiple screens full of apps that I had selected in settings/carplay on my iPhone, now I can't even get to the app screen as apple maps just opens on my infotainment screen by default and stays there.

Anyone else experiencing this?

2019 Yukon Denali / iPhone 7 / iOS 13.2 - no issues even when updating from iOS 12 to 13. What does your iPhone CarPlay screen show (select General then CarPlay)

A lot of times it doesn’t even startup CarPlay. There’s a connection cause my phone starts to charge, but CarPlay won’t even initiate on the vehicle’s screen. I’m going to take it to the dealer. It’s still under warranty but not sure if upgrades to the infotainment system (Cadillac Cur) would be conceded under warranty SINCE now one of the standard vehicle features doesn’t work.

What does your iPhone CarPlay screen show - whatever is shown there will be mirrored on your car screen. Go to General then CarPlay to view.

Now 90% of the time the vehicle doesn’t even startup CarPlay after I connect my phone. And as I said I know there’s a connection because it’s charging. So the vehicles display will show whatever was in there before and no CarPlay icon appears. My phone will have either google maps or Waze on its screen.

My phone sometimes pulls this stuff too. I’ll be watching this thread for suggestions.

I'll try my question again - what does the CarPlay screen on your iPhone look like compared to what is shown on the car's screen - they should be the same. I was just trying to determine if your setup on the phone was the culprit in not showing what you expected on the car screen - e.g., if you don't have Waze showing up on your iPhone screen Waze will not be on your car screen. Have you tried a different cable?

Sorry, I thought you understood, if/when Apple CarPlay is engaged, what’s displayed on my iPhone is different than what’s displayed on the vehicle screen. Yes I have tried a different cable. But again most of the time Apple CarPlay doesn’t even engage when I plug it in. And this issue only started with the iPhone 11. With my iPhone X I had no issues at all, and I used CarPlay every day, running Waze (yes on both screens, the iPhone screen and the vehicle screen). Thanks for trying to problem-solving this with me

If you go to the Beta version of iOS, this appears to be resolved. I had this until I went to the beta and haven’t had it happen since.

2016 Yukon Denali.

I have the same issue. A lot of people with new iPhones 11 are having the same issue. This appears to be a software problem. If you go on reddit you will see some workarounds to increase success rate.

So should I wait for the next iOS software update or ask GM for an update?

As I mentioned, it runs fine on 2019 Yukon Denali using both iPhone 7 and X-r running iOS 13.1.3 so I doubt it’s the iOS and GM isn’t going to have any update. I’d keep trying reboot everything, etc. good luck.

Have ya tried a new cable? I just went thru similar issues with CarPlay and it ended up being a combination of an old lightning charger and a charging port packed full of idk what.

If the phone is more than a few months old take a look in the charging port. I dug a lot more crap outta there than I thought was possible. Just be careful what ya use don’t wanna hurt the phone as expensive as they are these days.

Not only just a new cable but sometimes it may need to be a Apple cable.

What Jeff said. They do have “mfi” certified cables whatever the acronym may mean it’s a productApple certified, just cheaper.

I agree, Apple is touchy about the cable, their own branded ones work better from a compatibility perspective. But the after market ones are sometimes more durable.

I actually have tried both cables, Apple branded and non to the same result. Ordered a new Apple cable just in case and will try that one too.

Thanks for the advice, I’ve done all that so many times. Just FYI, even though you’re running iOS 13.1.3 on an iPhone 7, it’s not going to be the exact same code of iOS 13.1.3 that is running on an 11 Max Pro. They’re all slightly different, not a lot, but sometimes just enough to make a difference. Maybe the version they use for iPhone 7’s works flawlessly with CarPlay.

Try a different iPhone cable. Sometimes the knockoff ones will work for a while and then get fussy.

My 11 Pro works fine with my 2016 yukon
