Any ideas if the Vident iLink 400 will do everything I need it to on my 96? I've seen it as low as $140 on fleabay.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/173061340783

Does the Tech2 do anything additional I might need in the future?

I have no plan to ever sell my truck so I'd rather have something that does anything I might need it to. Do you know what I'd be missing by getting the Vident? Anything useful/essential? Ready to pull the trigger and give my ABS a flush.

Thanks for any advice / experience

Can that run the automated ABS bleed procedure?

Some say that they’ve had good luck with the Chinese counterfeit tech2 scanners (I think they call them ‘clones’) and the prices are appealing. Just not sure if I want to be the guinea pig on one. Maybe you’d like to volunteer? :)

Edit: this guy says his clone does the ABS. I’m going to message him and confirm.

I think so.

Would like some confirmation from a real human on here though :)

I've spent the last couple hours trying to work out the difference between the tech 2 'clone' for $330 ish and this one for $150 ish. The Tech 2 is probably more than I would need and it also looks pretty complex. Would just like to know what I'm missing if I don't get the Tech 2.

I've missed the eBay cut off today for one I'll probably buy from Oregon. Will probably spring for the Vident tomorrow unless someone convinces me otherwise.

Edit
Have found it for as low as $120 w free 3-5 day ship from China and they take PayPal.

That looks like a viable solution then.

I’m leaning toward the tech2 clone since a lot of the factory manual troubleshooting steps are written around it. But, the last thing that I need is yet another imported piece of junk that turns into an expensive paperweight.

Sometimes it’s just worth paying for something that works right the first time.

That's a pretty good reason to get a Tech 2.

With the struggle I've had trying to do bleed the ABS myself, and to find someone other than a dealer to perform the ABS flush, If it dies after I've done it a couple times it still might be worth it to me :)

Soft pedal to the floor?

How tight are your drums adjusted? Mine has the JB5 with the adjuster at the top, so it’s trial and error. The best pedal feel I got was running it out (click by click) until the drum wouldn’t go on and then backing it off two or three clicks.

Here’s what someone messaged me on the clone....

Yes I was able to do the ABS bleed no problems.

I was a little skeptical too but was also impressed with the unit once I received it. And for me the best part is that when using GMT400 service manuals, the instructions are directly inline with the unit because it is a tech2.

The only thing i will say about the units, as you saw in some of my post, the DC-DC regulator is not the quality of the original. This device takes the battery voltage and converts to 5volts to power the unit. It doesn't like the drop in input voltage when the battery takes a dive during starting and the regulated 5v drops out, so the unit can reboot during this. There is a better regulator you can put in if necessary and the clone reg fails. But the reality is there isn't much of any operations requiring shutdown and restart of the vehicle.

I will direct you to a few links you can take a look at.

The saabcentral.com site has tons of information about these units.

All the tech2 software https://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=612946

So you can get idea of the clone quality

No need to do all that you just plug in a external 12vdc 1amp power adapter with a extension cord to a wall socket and it will stay powered up fine during vehicle starts I ran into that problem trying to do evap testing once I plugged it into uninterrupted power it worked perfect, that was the only problem I ever ran into to with the clone.
