Commitment & Motivation

There's no turning back now, haha.

If you've been following my thread you know my goal was to paint this Denali from the get-go. I was mocking up paint jobs before i even bought it. After a ton of research this is going to be about the best compressor that runs on 120v with enough CFM to spray. So i picked it up this weekend. It is really right on the edge of being enough so it should be a fun challenge. But it's a budget build and i am going to spray it without a doubt.

I actually went to the Auto Paint store today and got some quotes on custom mixes and how much i need to prep, spray and clear etc..
I hope to buy the Guns i need (which are also very specific based on my CFM) within a week or two. The cool thing is i can start scuffing and prepping pretty much Now. This isn't a $40,000 vehicle and i have painted before, so i am confident and don't have any anxiety about tackling the job.

Let the agonizing monotonous fun begin

I've painted a few cars/trucks by hand because the paint was beyond repairable...your paint looks like it just rolled off the show room, if you're gonna paint it might I suggest Herculiner lol

Herculiner. haha. My buddy had a work truck that he used to drive through all types of trees and crazy places so the white paint was scratched to hell. He asked me to spray the whole thing with Bedliner. So we did. It was pretty bad ass for an ugly work truck and damn near bulletproof

Removing Window Tint Adhesive / Residue

Boring post alert..

Whoever owned this Denali back in the day must have just peeled the whole back window off and left all the adhesive. I got so sick of seeing out a blurry gluey back window everyday. Usually this is a pain in the asz to do. But it actually went pretty smooth.

Before

d258.jpg

I used "Goof-Off" and just saturated a corner of a cloth pretty good and just slowly rubbed in 6in circles and it came off with little effort. Then i came behind each area with a clean dry towel and that removed all the balled up glue.

d259.jpg

I used about half of the little can of Goof-Off and it took about 30-40 minutes. Came out perfect.

A fast fix would be to spread a little 2 part epoxy on the crack. It'll last awhile like that. Just make sure it's dry.

yeah. Gorilla Glue works too. Gorilla Glue actually activates with a little water so that might work too. A lot easier than pulling it all apart again. Might do that tomorrow.

I just stripped my negative terminal as well...damn thing falls out of the battery terminal every time I hit a bump in the road. Did you take any pics how to replace it?

I use WD-40 instead. Works better and it has lots of other uses. Great hand cleaner for one.
Edit: I'm doing some boring posts too over in my build thread if you guys just can't get enough.

I used to use goof off to get rid of adhesive and and the like, and now I just use WD-40! Works so much better haha. It’ll pull sap off paint and windows! Haha.

Use wd40 too.... anything that works i use...

Luckily the post is softer than the terminal on the battery so the battery side never strips out. That would suck. Its super easy to replace it.

it really is super easy. i just used a big pliers to get a grip, unscrew it, then you can push it out of the hard rubber and push the new one in. The threads on the post were stripped but the threads on the battery were fine. The new one is nice and tight

yeah i was praying it wasnt the battery threads. it was a new battery so i figured it was fine

Spent a couple hours at the Auto Paint Shop getting my colors mixed, clear coat, reducer and hardener and picking up other supplies

Decided to go with my original idea of black on bermuda blue.

Made a couple animated GIF's to show the Bermuda in action.
