I was in the market for an SUV for the family (wife and 2 kids) having come from a junker 1990 Nissan Pathfinder. I used to own a 2004 Tahoe Z71 11 years ago so always had a Tahoe in mind. I loved that ride. Now I'm back to home ownership and the ability to buy a nice SUV for the family after struggling for years....I went with a Chevy Tahoe over Gmc because I was at my father in laws house which he is a chevy guy and a mechanic who owns his own very successful auto repair shop, races top dragster, was well as my brother in law who is a mechanic was there who asked me, hey Marc, do you know what GMC stands for? I said Generic Made Chevrolet? He said no....it stands for GayMansChevy. After that I went and bought clean 2011 Chevy Tahoe over a clean Yukon Because I knew I wouldn't be able to stop hearing my brother in law saying what he thought GMC stood for......I do not endorse what my brother in law thinks is funny or what he thinks, just sharing what went through my mind when buying a Chevy vs. GMC.....
This is a first. Someone buying a Tahoe over a Yukon because they are homophobic. lol

sorry, i meant "denali" not the XL part.

yes you are correct, I believe the Premier has ANC as I believe the "LTZ" had it. And the cupholders are Premier and Denali only. However, The 17 and 18 SLT have the exterior trim pkg as well...chrome trim door panels, chrome exhaust as well as a different grill (but no chrome for handles and rear bumper). The SLT now has the standard digital gauges like the Premier and denali. The LT and SLE do not. It's almost like they randomly picked different things to crossover and some not. Basically the Premier has a few extra chrome add-ons outside of the HUD and MRC . Denali has different leather/stitching seats, interior, tranny, and engine. Denali has real brushed alum trim interior while SLT and Premier share the same plastic interior trim as other models. Essentially, outside of the cupholders, the interior of a Premier is identical to an SLT, part for part.

I recently replaced a seat cushion in our SLT with one out of a loaded wrecked 17 suburban premier and it's identical...a black perforated vented seat.

I am curious if all models have same sound proofing, glass, etc.

In order definitely Denali, Premier, SLT...but in my opinion the Denali is a different animal with major diff while the SLT and Premier have most in common.

Why did you have to replace a seat cushion in your SLT?

No I haven’t had any issues at all and I’m at 24k miles.

I always thought the material on the center console in the Denali looked different in pics. Never been in one in person. It looks more creamy and rubbery, less flat plastic. I would really love a better dash. Especially at $70-80k.

A 2017 Premier with no issues, I say keep it! I wouldn’t trade it for a 2018 Denali. I would just wait till the redesign in a few years then get your Denali then. 2017 is still new in my opinion.

I've been looking at 17 and 18SLTs and I'm a little confused regarding the dash options. I see a lot of the late builld 17s having the elec info dash (like the denali) screen but I'm also seeing 18 SLTs with the previous style. There doesn't seem to be any clear reason why some have it and some don't. I assumed it was a late model change but now seeing 18s with the old style is a bit strange. Again I'm talking strictly SLT models.

That dash design is an option for the SLT, you have to order the Uplevel display as they call it otherwise its the midlevel dash that comes with it. In order to get the HUD you would also need the uplevel. When I was looking for my Ride, the sales rep had said that the vehicles that come with it Stock are the Denalis, and Escalades, it was an option for Tahoe and Subs Premiers editions.

Yes, I understand it was option at one point but thought it became standard for SLT and chevy LT and up models for late 17 and all 18. I Guess not.

JMO, if there is going to be any towing being done, the 8 speed and 6.2l with anti-sway and rear air suspension is the way to go. Definitely more than worth the $6-8000 difference some have been stating.
We had a 5.3l Tahoe that I never towed with. However after that we had a Expedition EL with the 5.4 and 6 speed. The Denali is much better at towing than that combo was. Not towing...nope, not as important.

The Tahoe actually can tow more with the max trailering package than a Yukon Denali.

They are nice, but I bought mine to tow and carry 7 people.

My Denali can carry 8 and has materially more power than the 5L engine and can trailer just about much (but more safely if equipped with the max package).

FYI - according to a dealer, there was a shortage of standard guages for 17 models so a number of batches of standard SLTs received the uplevel displays in 17. This explains why I saw a handful of standards SLTs with the upgraded gauges. All 18 SLTs have the standard with the exception being the "premium" pkg.

I think it is so subjective. There is forum talk and then there is what you see and how it feels at the dealer lot. Now include spouse impulse buying, stir a little persuasion or "good deal" from the sales guy robot commanded by his Sales Tower, and Voila!
We took 100% the emotion out and zero in on a suburban for our budget and best condition.
5.3 vs 6.2, denali vs Premier, etc... just go with what makes most sense for you.

For info we got a 15 Suburban LT for dirt cheap used, comparably of course, and installed 2017 Suburban/Tahoe Premier optional 22" wheels.
Looks and feel just the way we wanted.
For others that might be giving up the 6.2, some of the very few missing niceties, etc...

I am mostly interested in not getting hit with that 18 to 24 months depreciation!

I agree the depreciations sucks. You easily lose $20-$25,000 dollars in year one of ownership. The 6.2 is the deal breaker on chevy for me, so much more power. The big hit these trucks take is hyper depreciation, where they come down to actual worth. What we pay New is far from the true value of the truck, that number is much lower.

yep, we paid about $35,000 for our used 2015 last year. that's about 20 less than new.

Value is what anyone is willing to pay. If you paid $70k, that’s the value.

KBB tells me my denali would get around $55-59k.

I paid 66k 18 months ago.

Doesn’t seem super hyper IMO.

Depends how much you drive, with the miles I put on it dropped like a rock. My truck was mid 70s new and is now probably worth around 35 to 40 grand *Not trade in* I’m talking that’s what the dealer would sell it for. Trade in maybe 32ish grand. 60k miles on it. I see one year old tahoes all the time for $20,000 less than new barely broken in. Value is perceived by the consumer and after owning one I don’t see 70 grand in value anymore for a new one again.

Everyone’s definition of ‘barely broken in’ is different. Is 20k barely broken in? Mine has 20k and it’s only depreciated $10k from the selling price.
