I have a 5.3 hoe with a Violent CAI and under-body Ram Air Kit. Does anyone have a similar setup? If so do you have a sound clip or video so I know what to expect? Or can you send me a link to check out the sound.

You can disconnect the exhaust pipe just after the cat that should give you an idea. Basically, it will be loud, raspy and sound like smeared dog crap. If you don't route it out from under your tahoe, it will echo under neath and have drone. If your AFM is not disabled, you wont be able to get it reinstalled fast enough once you hear it in 4 cyl mode.

You can google "straight piped LS sound clip" or something and you might find a video or two. Keep in mind that consumer camcorders distort the sound slightly. Some limit the recorded volume so that it isn't as loud as in person.

I don't have a clip, but I heard what an 05 sounded like. Person deleted the muffler and just welded in pipe where the muffler was, sounded great, Imo. Had a deep throaty burbly sound at idle. I didn't hear it on the road, was a dealer's truck on a lot.

the Flowmaster Super 10 dual in dual out will only cost me 150 bux, will your idea produce a similar sound and cost the same or less?
My idea would cost less than 30 bucks for a manual cutout if u can do it urself.

Ur the one that wanted straight pipe... no mention of a flowmaster in the beginning.

As I read though peoples post they said it would sound horrible as a straight pipe so I went back to my original idea. I was asking you if I went with your idea would it have a similar sound and price. I am asking you because I dont know and I am pooling ideas.

I think it would sound like poop as well... but since that WAS what u wanted, I was giving u a way to achieve the results that u had wanted and not be stuck with it.

Cut outs are cheap... if electric ones are 2 expensive... do manual cutouts.

I did it on my 07. Cut muffler out and left resonator on. I think it sounds pretty good at WOT but sounds like our boat at idle 4 cylinder mode is super annoying! So if around town I'll drop it in 3rd. I'll try and get a sound clip

Electric cutouts are good. In my experiance the machanical cutouts are just as unreliable due to the cable rusting or having sharp angles in it. And every mechanical one i heard rattles and sounds like an intermittently leaking exhaust. If going electric youwill need to find a good one and spend a few extra dollars for quality. But even a cutout stuck open will be less permanent than a straight pipe. Just pull it out and clean it and you are good to go. A straight pipe on a 5.3 with or without resonator doesn't give you a muscle car sound. In my opinion it sounds loud and nothing more. 0 masculinity in the tone especially with a stock cam. Most people who try straight pipes really just want the muscle car tone and lope. Which you will not get. Just an awful tone that is so loud you have to drive with your head down in embarrassment so nobody sees you. And forget about reving at a stoplight.
