Mine did this same thing this week. What was the issue? Mine was towed to the dealership , but no word as of now.

Same thing happened to my 2021 Yukon this past weekend. Was driving and without warning, the engine stalled. It shifted itself into neutral and I coasted to the side of the road. When trying to start it back up, it just clicked. It was towed to the dealership who has since found that the fuel pump control module failed.

I have a 2021 Yukon Denali with roughly 70k miles and this is now the SECOND time that my engine shut off while driving on the interstate in the past 3 months. The first time I had that sensation that the car was running out of gas when I went to accelerate. After about 5-10 sec of that, the engine turned off but the electronics stayed on. I coasted to the side of the road and tried multiple times to start it without success. The engine sounded fine while turning over and over but it would never start. That episode turned out to be a bad fuel pump control module and after roughly $200 at the local Firestone auto repair shop I was on my way (FYI, they didn't diagnose it, I learned that was the likely problem by reading these forums and basically demanded they replace the FPCM). Now, here I am about 3 months later and it did it again. The only difference was this time I had zero warning. No sensation of running out of fuel or funny noises from engine. I just went to give it gas and nothing. Had a warning on dash saying push button to start vehicle (once again, the electronics stayed on when engine shut off). Coasted to side of road and battery seemed to be good but engine wouldn't turn over. Had it towed to shop and am being told I will likely need a new engine!!!!! My 2023 just did this on Friday. I was driving up the NYS thruway at ~75 mph when the engine shut off. No warnings, no lights… nothing. I coasted to the side of the road and put it in park. It started back up and I thought it must be a freak thing, so I started on my way… again no warning lights. Less than a mile later it all happened again. This time, it won’t start and I can’t get it into neutral, so it gets drug up a rollback. I was going away on a guys weekend with a few friends in my Yukon. Luckily we had friends behind us who could transfer the gear and take my friends to our destination. I had the car towed to a GMC dealer who said they would look at it on Friday. It’s now Sunday and I haven’t heard a word. I tried them on Saturday but they didn’t have an update. I have driven some terrible cars but I’ve never been stranded on the side of the road… now let’s say this, I can’t imagine being stranded on the side of the road in an $85000, 2 year old SUV WITH 20k miles. Whatever the fix is, it’s for sale.
Hey everyone, I need some advice. My 2021 Denali 6.2L engine is toast. The car has now been at the dealership for over 5 weeks waiting for them to source a new engine. Thankfully, I'm in a loaner vehicle but this is getting ridiculous. What "rights" do I have to put pressure on both GMC and my local dealership to get this problem fixed asap.
I got the update today… needs new engine and they have three other trucks waiting on the same engine. The earliest would be three weeks. I don’t even want it back.

The exact same thing happen to me the other day with my 2023 Yukon Xl Ultimate. Driving to work and all of a sudden I couldn’t accelerate. I look at my dash and it says I’m in neutral and to press start again. I pulled over and it started back up. Started driving again and it did it 3 more times before I finally arrived at work. When I left work, I made it a mile from my house and it turns off, except this time it wouldn’t start back up! Had to get it towed. Couldn’t even have someone push me out of traffic because it wouldn’t shift into neutral. Tow truck had to use a winch to get it on the tow truck.
After a couple days we finally got my Yukon back. They said it had a bad fuse block.

If you have a 6.2l, I would be getting worried. Sounds like a precursor to bearing problems.
I would be checking the oil level and see if the oil is actually clear and be watching the oil pressure.
Might even suggest having the oil changed at the dealer and make sure there is no metal in the oil. At least if you have the oil changed and they find metal in the oil, you are at the dealer and not going to be stuck somewhere again requiring to be towed.

The diagnosis was a bad fuse block...so I asume they replaced it...and now he is running...seems a bit of a stretch to go from fuse block to blown engine. But hey...who knows, right?
The history shows either the high Amp fuse (400 Amp) for the starter and/or the fuse block needs to be replaced when the engine cranking current gets too high. What many people do not realize is with the Push Button start engines, if the engine has an extended crank or will not crank, you can push the Push Start button to cancel the crank timer from the ECM.
I have seen a number of 6.2l engines that before they hard failed would shut off driving down the road. Then would often restart almost immediately or after sitting for a bit. Many of the locked up 6.2l engines would either require the replacement of the high Amp fuse and/or fuse block because the starter would be engaged in the engine that would not turn and the ECM crank timer is running for 5-10 seconds and the fuse blows/melts the fuse block.
I have even heard about a few cases where the fuse blows or the fuse block melts and needs to be replaced and within a short period of time the 6.2l engine seizes. So unfortunately is it not as far fetched of an idea that the engine may be on the way out and may already have signs of metal in the oil while it is still running.
I guess we will know if the OP ever reports back that the engine has failed in their vehicle.

Hey Everyone - I have another version of problem with these vehicles. My son's 2022 Yukon (6.2L) went into limp mode last night. He got it home and parked. Started right up today and idled fine with no unusual noises. However, wouldn't move when in drive. He put it back into park let it sit for a few minutes idling. He then put it in drive and it went into drive and acted like ti was operating OK. He didn't drive it and has an appt at the local GMC dealer on Monday. I'll update on status when I hear back from him.
Did you ever get yours back? What if anything did they do for you? Mine is now 5 weeks in the shop with no end in sight, and I don't want to keep getting rentals.

My 2022 Yukon XL Denali had a total engine failure in February at roughly 16,000 miles. Same rod bearing failure others described. Oil pan was full of metal shavings. Engine was just replaced after ~ 40 days of waiting. The brand new engine just died after I drove it less than 20 miles. GMC said I had to wait until it was fixed to communicate any offers. Then it died before they got around to calling me back. Now they say I have to wait again.

I finally got mine back after NINE weeks at the dealer. It took about 7 or 8 business days for them to install the new engine once they called and told me they had secured one. I was obviously super pumped to be back in the saddle, but my joy didn't last long. Within a few miles, the check engine light came on even though the car seemed to be running fine. After a few days, I began experiencing electrical/computer problems that were very strange and too complicated to type out in detail. Ultimately, I experienced an electronic brake failure (thankfully at slow speeds in a parking lot) so had to have it towed back to dealership where it's currently in the queue waiting for diagnostic assessment.

Update on my sons 2022 Denali, still sitting at the dealer waiting for the trans valve body. The dealer has no idea when they will receive the part. It's been a month.
There is a valve body solution currently available if you want to skip the dealer network. I would even think you could possibly submit the repair invoice for possible reimbursement. Maybe you can get some partail reimbursement, maybe not, but I would not wait MONTHS for a repair.

Update - yesterday the dealer notified my son they are replacing the transmission. However, they didn't say when they expected the replacement to be available. They did give him a loaner.

Can you find out the mileage and post that info here? We see a lot of transmission and engine failures and often we only get he model year, not the mileage. I think the mileage may help others to understand when some of these failures are occurring.
