Mines doing the same thing. Ran fine, then just stopped. I actually burned up the starter trying to get it to start. Thought it was a bad Fuel Pressure Regulator, so I replaced that and the starter, and still would not start. Replaced the fuel pump again and almost wants to start, but wont start.

If anyone else has any ideas, I am all ears.

Thanks

any chance your fuel filter is clogged from debris or contamination of some sort?

Just replaced the fuel filter, and it was broken on the inside (extreme rattling). Put the new one in (correct flow) and goto prime the fuel system and notice fuel running down the driveway. Closer look at the fuel lines show that the steel lines (between fuel pump connection that are flex and the filter) are rotted, and I guess broke while changing the filter. I am guessing if the outer side of the line looked like that, the inside was just as bad and that is the main culprit.

If fuel lines are getting bad they will suck air and sometimes even crush inside blocking fuel off... If you checked your fuel reg I would out on a limb and try checking throttle positioning sensor and crankshaft sensor and timing control sensor they are all pretty cheap and a good investment on changing anyways...good luck

Well, tried using rubber fuel line and metal hose straps from pump to filter and the pressure side hose keeps blowing off. Does anyone have an idea of where I can get the steel braided line with the correct connections from the fuel tank to the steel lines going into the Fuel Spider? I am starting to get to the point of really not wanting to dump any more money into it and part it out. On the other hand, the body is in good shape, and the interior is in damn near perfect condition.

You get get them from Summit or Jegs, $$$$$$$ though, I replaced my tranny lines so I've been there. I have double jacketed line at my fuel tank to the metal line, double clamped, holds fine.

Go to the junkyard and pull the lines u need...

Going to attempt that this week, and possibly next week while traveling for work.

Now, here is my new issue that hopefully I can get some input on:

With the temporary lines in place, I am getting 50psi at the fuel test port, I am getting terrific spark from all wires, and STILL no start (not even an attempt to fire). I am thinking the timing chain is the culprit now. Is there anything else that I can check/do before digging into the timing chain?

Also, the plugs were wet when pulled, and replaced with new today. I did get an occasional "pop" at the exhaust.

Thanks guys!

These are interference engines, if you snapped the timing chain the valves WILL meet he pistons. No chain = no cam spinning = no spark.

Thanks for that info. Even tho I am getting spark, could the cap/rotor be a possible culprit?

Generally speaking, no. A bad cap/rotor will make it run like crap but if it's sparking it should be enough to at least start. They are cheap and the Autozone stuff comes with a 5 year warranty so it may be worth it to swap and test.

Well, come to find out the person that was going to buy it, but wanted to see if he could get it running said it had good spark (which I didn't see since I was turning the key). I went out and pulled the #1 plug and put it in the wire, and had someone turn the key, and no spark. Pulled the cap, and all the points inside were covered in a white ashy substance and looked like they were no longer flat on the ends. Put new cap and rotor in this morning and she fired right up. Took her a few miles to finally run smooth, but have a bit of a high idle at times, since I lost one of the bolts that holds the plastic plenum on the upper intake. Now to get the suspension, front calipers, sway bar links, and all bushings replaced. Glad I didn't sell it, couldn't find another that had the interior in as good shape as mine.

Thanks for the input from everyone.

Filled up at Murphy Oil yesterday and while fueling the attendant was checking fuel level in the tanks. Drove to another stop then home. Went to start it last evening and wouldn't start. I hear the fuel pump. Would he have stirred up enough crap to clog filter? Have replaced the fuel spider in Feb.

Unless he was using a paddle to check the ground tanks, the straight stick wouldnt stir up enough, and even if it did, it would not reach the pump for a long period of time. If you hear the pump, check your pressure on your fuel line (right before the fuel spider), and then check your cap/rotor (wish I would have dont that at first, and not wasted so much time messing around with other stuff)

It's the pump. Crawled under there yesterday and nothing. Is AC Delco the recommended replacement or is this an any brand change?
