If they were all flex fuel I would think these sites would say that. Nothing I have found says they're all flex fuel since 2015, and even the owner's manual doesn't state it's flex fuel. It says it will have a yellow sticker on the fuel door (mine does not). Posting a press release of a flex fuel motor doesn't "settle it" in my opinion. It just means that specific Tahoe listed was flex fuel.

I clicked on the link posted and clicked the input my VIN, it just wanted to sell me tahoes.

There's only two V8 engines, a 5.3 Liter L83 or the 6.2 Liter L86. Go google "L83 engine" and see for yourselves that the former is E85 capable.

The information in this link for the L86 is wrong, as we know the L86 is not a Flex Fuel engine. They are frequently wrong about specs, or confused. For example, the LC9s compression ratio is 9.95:1 but you'll more often than not see it listed as 9.5:1 or 9:1. In 2009 the engine was tuned differently depending on the application but the variations and at which rpm will drive a person mad trying to figure it out as the official sources are all conflicting.

So to the OP, what engine is in your Tahoe? Look up your RPO codes.

So all 2015+ 5.3s are flex fuel, correct?

I have a 2015 Tahoe LT with the 5.3 which is the L83 unless I am mistaken.

I guess I can try putting E85 in and see what happens

NOTHING. black gas cap, no emblem on tailgate

Same here. Nothing on gas cap and no emblem on my 2017. And from owner's manual "Vehicles marked as “E85” or FlexFuel can use either unleaded gasoline or ethanol fuel containing up to 85% ethanol (E85). All other vehicles should use only the unleaded gasoline as described in Fuel".

And the 5.3L v8 ecotec3 engine specs (http://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/gm-engines/l83/) do mention "regular unleaded or E85".

Very confusing.

So do you have the 6.2 L86? The 5.3 L83 is a Flex Fuel engine and has been since its introduction in 2014. If it were to lose the Flex Fuel capability, GM would assign a new name to the engine just as they did with the Gen IV engines when they got Flex Fuel.

Which RPO codes do you have?

I wouldn't put that Flex Fuel shit in there if it isn't designed for it. Funny thing is my 08 impala and 12 impala were set up for E85, but around here we just started seeing it only a couple of years ago and only at Sheetz, because they have the dispensing equipment. I ran it with no problems except that you get crappy mileage. I wont run that shit in my Hoe. I don't think there is much of a savings when you factor in the mileage difference. just my 2 cents

But when the hurricane comes and they run out of regular gas, you won't care if the mileage is worse! You'll be the only one filling up!

Mine says it on my build sheet in the RPO codes, too. Mine is L59.

Same here (RPO L59) on my '04 Hoe. It has a black gas cap that may or may not have been changed -- it's not tethered -- and there is a small B&W sticker on the inside of the fuel door showing that E85 is OK. No badging on the tailgate or anywhere else I've seen. Also, the 8th character of my vin is "Z", which I think is an indicator of being E85 compatible. The emissions testers are notorious for failing gas caps so a lot of them get changed just to pass, and who's going to look for a yellow replacement cap?

E85 causes hard cold starting, and to be even a wash the price difference would have to be pretty large because of the lower gas mileage. I almost never run 100% E85 for those reasons, especially in cold weather. The only place I've found it here is at Western gas stations, so it's not all that readily available.
