Why do people convert TO a PPV?

Im just curious. A PPV is cheaper. And when you save all that cash buying one, you can afford all the consumer upgrades for it.

Console - $240
8" screen with carplay -$1300
Heated and cooled leather seats - $2000
Steering wheel - $200
Carpet...if you want it.

For me, I got a 2015 PPV Tahoe with all the civilian ugrades for under $17k The cheapest Tahoe I found was $25k

Granted, I dont want chrome rims or 3rd row, but thats why I got the PPV. Im just trying to understand

Because the OP asks about why people convert TO PPV but explains how he converted a PPV to a normal, to him, interior set up. That is confusing and that is why Steven asked. I am curious myself. If I had to guess, he posted the wrong title to the thread but what the hell do I know.

This is my question, too. I've never heard of anyone "converting to a PPV"
Plenty of people lower, stiffen them up, or upgrade brakes, but that's not converting to a PPV.

Ummm. Nobody converts to a PPV unless buying PPV wheels counts. And even then it’s usually people concerting their wheels on a PPV they bought BACK to PPV wheels. Whew.

From what I've been reading on here it seems the 15-20 PPV suspensions are different from the 07-14. Struts and springs.

They definitely are different. My personal Tahoe is a 2016 PPV I bought new and my work car is a 2012 SSV (they aren’t PPVs) and they handle very differently.

That was my plan to get PPV and make some upgrades, I bought mine 2016 for 14k, installed center console $200, got 2018 Denali front seats from junkyard both $800, 3rd-row seats with a box on the way for $350. will upgrade to Bilstein suspension for a comfy ride, will be around $800, lots of savings compare if you buy civilian Tahoe. My plan was to have New suspension and nice interior, that's it, I don't need fancy rims or carplay...

Dont know about current iterations but PPV vehicles, SUV and pickups, used to be the bare bones stripped down models then the PPV goodies added. Basic no or minimal sound deadening compared to consumer ones rolling off same assembly line, sometimes no carpet, manual windows, though may have come with AC, etc. Cost savings with less focus on the driving experience/comfort.

MY father was a "bare bones" vehicle kinda guy...AC was the only upgrade he would ever spend for. I understand wanting the suspension & brake upgrades of the PPV, but I like the creature comforts too much to buy a strip down version. To each their own...

In the most basic definition, yes. However knowing where to plug certain things can be difficult, and there are 3-4 wires that need to be soldered into the BCM.

I thought it would be easier, but going through the process, I’m glad I had the videos and assistance from the guys I got it from. It probably would have been easier if the parts and the videos matched the parts I got, but things change. If I did it again, I probably wouldn’t get CarPlay, just. Its not used all that much, but having the extra mapping apps, weather, and iPhone capability is nice.

If you’re thinking about buying the parts on eBay and just doing it that way, don’t, you can’t, it needs specially harnesses and you REALLY need the instructions.

Thanks for the reply. I am hot and cold on going the PPV route. The price I'm finding for PPVs aren't much lower than I can pic up an LS for. An LS wouldn't have as far to go on adding items to make is a "normal" Tahoe.

Seems that the PPV rigs have a niche group that want them. I may have read my answer somewhere but what is the draw? They have likely been driven like they were stolen and abused a bit. I know that in the gun groups there are guys/girls that just want to shoot what the police and military are shooting. Is the PPV draw the same thing? I see threads here where people buy a PPV and then post on here about how can they make it like a regular LS or LT.
