I have a 2014 Tahoe PPV with 3.08 gears. I am thinking about changing them out to 3.42 or 3.73's.

I am looking for a little quicker acceleration from a stop. I do not race my Tahoe but it is a slug accelerating from a stop light. I feel like I have to mash the gas peddle just to get it to move. I do not tow with it. I am just looking for better drive-ability.

Has anyone done this? If so how did it affect acceleration? Also how bad did it affect MPG's? What RPM's are you running at 80mph? Did you need anything other than the ring and pinion? Also how did you change the ecm for the gears? Will a tech II handle that?

I am not looking for a tuner at the moment. I still have 3 years on my power train warranty and I do not want to void it. After my warranty is up I will look into a tune.

Im pretty sure the 6spd Tahoe's came with 3.42 gears where the 4spd came with 3.73, very rarely did the 4spd come with 3.08.

PPV I believe always had whatever was standard for that trans and year.

Towards the end they put mostly 3.08's in the rear end. I confirmed I have 3.08's on my window sticker.

I don't even know why the put such a high gear in a vehicle this size. My wife's 2011 Tahoe has 3.08's and it really needs a 3.23 minimum. The 6L80E has such a deep overdrive, there's no reason to run such a high ratio.

My Suburban has 3.73 gears and I feel it could use more power. I couldn't imagine having 3.08's. That'd be terrible.

Picked up a 2012 Tahoe LT a few years back to replace my 2001 Silverado 1500 (RIP Truck). In my haste to get a vehicle I made some compromises biggest being the HD towing package. My Silverado had 4.10 gears and could pull down a house, the Tahoe has 3.08 gears and cant get out of its own way. So needless to say a gear swap is in the near future. My old man has a 2012 Suburban LTZ with 3.42 gears which I think are OK but still leave me wanting more specially when pulling a trailer. I was thinking about going with 4.10's like the Silverado but with first gear in the 6L80 being 4.03 I didn't want to get too aggressive. So I am thinking 3.73 gears are the way to go, do you guys think they will be over kill?

3.08 with the 6 speed isn't terrible. 1st gear is like having 4.10s. They do it for one reason - mileage. I'm about to change mine in the truck to 4.56s, but Im lifted on 35s. Still would rather have the 4 speed though.
