what kinda oil does everyone use, ive got a 95 tahoe with 234k and change on it use the ac delco filter and 10w30 mixed blend high mileage oil by valvoline, runs mint no clue if it was ever rebulit but had it for a few months with no problems, i just figured id use the 10w30 cause of the high mileage doesnt really use any oil between changes, so what weight and brand would anyone suggest, thanks for the help

I use Castrol Syntec full synthetic 5w30 in the winter, and 10w30 in the summer. But I have a new crate engine that only has 27k(miles) on it. Sucks because it's $70 per oil change, but I want this machine to last for some time.

During the breakin period of the first 10,000kms. I changed the oil every 1000kms. For the first five 1000kms I used regular oil, then the second five 1000kms I used full synthetic. Then at 10k, I dropped down to every 5000kms running full synthetic.

I use the synthetic oil filter from fram part# xg3980.

For the guy moving to Alaska, I would think he might use 0w30.

I normally use either quaker state or pennzoil 10w30 dino oil. Also i use anything BUT a Fram oil filter....

I normally don't like to use motor oil's with alot of additives in them (like your average high mile motor oils).

I have also used Mobil 1 and Castrol 5w20 oils as well with just fine results.I normally ran these oils in my Ford Crown Victoria's.The 4.6L Ford mod motors have narrow oil
journals and like the thinner motor oils.

mobil

mobil 1 ext. performance w/ mobil 1 filter.
I get it at advanced discount when they run there deals (pretty often) for under $40 with tax. you can get the regular mobil 1 for like 2 or $3 less.
royal purple is good stuff too but too much for my blood. I use them for gear oil though as I dont change that very often so I splurge for that. Also run royal purple in bottom end of my outboard motor.

$70/change...WOW!!!! I know the exchange rate plays a roll, but that's excessive. I run full synthetic in my rig too, but like another poster stated, only pay about $30-40 for a full oil change (5qts + filter) and I don't fool with Fram at all.

Ya, sometimes living in the Great White North sucks...Na! I just suck it up and go play in the snow!
I see plenty of links on here to parts that I can buy cheaper if only I lived South of the border, or the vendors would ship North of the border. :emotions122:

Details of Parts:
1 XG3980 SYNTHETIC GRADE OIL FILTER $10.91 $10.91
6 2011-38 5W30 CASTROL SYNTHETIC $8.99 $53.94
$73.28 after HST is paid.

Just curious, why the Hate-on for Fram? Obviously you guys know something that I don't? Do tell....

No way should anyone use fram. Leaky mfs. But anyways...I use either Penzoil or Mobil 5000...ALWAYS USE A WIX OR K&N FILTER. nothing else. Im getting ready to do a break in of a new motor so Im most likely gonna be going thru oil like its cool or someshit. :pimp:

Hehe...from what I understand, there are some very fine plants coming out of BC... Oh and the Natives have some good stuff too..... :mexsmoke:
And beer is beer, not that watered down stuff. Try to find Moosehead...Love that shit.

So the only complaint against Fram is they leak? Hell, mine don't stay on long enough to leak enough to make a difference. It's every month and a half for me. It's the 5000kms limit that I hit before I ever come close to the three month limit.

I got the nice 62 heads they started using in 06 hoes. and yea i love the moose. drink it more than I should admit:boti:

I have always used Quaker State without issue. I was talked into castrol a few oil changes ago because the lube shop no longer offers quakerstate. I had a lifter tap with cold starts until I changed it back to Quaker State.

i run 5w-30 plain mobil1 in both my 99 tahoe and 06 silverado.
if its good enough for corvettes, its good enough for me

and delco filters. filter change every 3-5k, full drain and fill every 12-15k.

a good read: http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/mobil1.html

i like the added protection, especially in the wifes truck. if for some reason it should overheat, or drop oil pressure, it will buy some time.
