What is this?

I've noticed this on my headliner but I have no idea what the hell it is. It slides back and forth and has a wire attached to it that goes in by my map lights..

My guess is microphone from the previous owners Bluetooth kit or hands free docking station.

Well I guess it's safe to assume it's not supposed to be there..

I pulled the light down to get a better look and it is connected to another wire that follows the rest of the wires in there. Too dark now to really figure it out, but does this help with ideas?

I have the same device on my '02 Z71 Tahoe. I was told it is the microphone for the onstar/phone system which is no longer useful

Mine has it too. Mic for onstar... I think. It is supposed to be there but if you don't like it, take it out and see what happens. Make sure you don't get followed by the secret ******, lol.

It is without a doubt the onstar mic. I asked the dealer about it when I was purchasing my Yukon.

Damn! You beat me to it.

I took mine and unhooked it and put it in the glove box. WRONG !!!!! The little red light on the right side of the mirror came on to let me know there was a problem with the on star. So now on star cant hear what I am saying in my truck. Guess I need to get verizon now. Any way I plugged it back in and just put it inside the console. The light turned green and on star is happy again. Scott

I removed that mic, the buttons on the dash, the black box in front of the passenger sun visor, the ugly 80s limo antenna on the side glass (inside and outside), no problems with any systems or warning lights.
