What is the consensus on replacement engine battery?

Well, I am old and I'll gladly exchange a few dollars for accidentally dropping a battery or just having to deal with it. Can I do it? Sure if I had to.... but Life is short and I left the perfectionist attitude behind me long ago. All these vehicles are to me is just nice hunks of Iron to haul me around. Have a nice day

I dropped a 1/2 size battery on my foot once, it was not fun. had to hoble around with one of those braces on my foot for 6 weeks
I would imagine a full size car battery would probably involve surgery, depending on how it landed

I get it if your physically unable but my point is if you can you will do a better job than any tech that dos batteries and tire rotations. They are the lowest guys at the shop, along with the oil change guys….

I’ve had more stuff damaged over the years where I’m just saying F them all I’ll do it!

Yes I do my own tire rotations as well.

Even my first free service I told the dealership just change the oil don’t touch the wheels. I didn’t want their greasy paws on them and of course there is a good chance they’d scratch something.

It’s a sad fact no one cares about your stuff, they just do things as fast as they can to get them in and out. If they take shortcuts and break clips, scratch things, they don’t care. Most people don’t complain either so it’s the SOP.

I beg to differ on that one. They used to be good, but at least in my motorcycle applications their quality has gone down over the last few years and, IMO, are not worth the price.

Depends. I think Odyssey Extreme still the best lead acid battery out there (or X2Power from Batteries Plus), but you will need $$$$. The Odyssey performance series not nearly as goood.

Odyssey all the way. I have one on another vehicle that lasted 8 years in heat and cold. The one on this Tahoe is 5 years. The one on the last Tahoe was 6 years.

Also depends on climate (heat kills batteries), if they sit for a long time and run down, usage, charge rate, blah, blah…

Walmart batteries the only ones I've had last any decent length of time so that's what my stuff has. Tahoe got one last year. It wasn't a fun one to get to.

We have Batteries Plus + in my area and they will install it for you. You just want to replace it with the correct size and whether if it's a Lead Acid or AMG in the truck and don't vear. You can go higher with cca but not anything else. Batteries can be changed with simple tools just remove the Negative terminal first with the key removed and ten feet away from the truck. I have used just about every battery you can think of threw out my 35 plus years of being a mechanic and like another reviewer said there are only three manufacturers of batteries. For those other people that say an idiot can install a battery are people that haven't dealt with the public that can F up a wet dream. I have used AcDelco. Interstate, Everstart, Etc...... and the list goes on so no favorites for me. And if the battery post are dirty lose or not fully making contact with the post can also cause electrical nightmares. Ask me how I know! I've seen it all! Walmart charges a core fee and they don't take your old battery so now your stuck with the core but my local transfer station takes them so do your homework, and good luck if it fails trying to get it replaced. I don't let anyone touch my vehicles unless I need tires, alignment or a scan tool to reflash a computer.

Battery's are like 02 sensors now, I have given up thinking specific brands are "safe" regarding quality; 3 years ago I would have a list of those I trust but every one has burned me enough over the last couple years that I have accepted they all come from the same low quality sources who have no competition left to motivate them to be better

So now I buy the cheapest battery that fits & the odds of getting junk have not increased, just part of living in a time where China has eliminated all the competition so you live with whatever standard they choose to build to

For your truck, when the engine battery needs replaced, what is your battery of choice? Currently driving a 23 Yukon and will need to eventually replace the battery, so I am starting to scour the options now for when the day comes.

Also, are most people doing it themselves, or is this more of one of those "let the dealer mess with it" type of things?

05 Tahoe went through battery's yearly... then we purchased a Red Top battery lasted a long time, the last one almos 10 years... We wont buy anything else.

Pro-rated replacement? It makes a big difference.

And, in general, Walmart gets a lot of bad-mouthing it doesn't deserve. It's a big, easy target.
