Been trying to figure this bb shit out. Really confusing. Went on the site and downloaded the efi live, but I'm still stumped.

That’s saying it lost communication with your obd2 port, probably the same thing that keeps happening with your Tech2. I think you have an issue where your obd port is losing connection. Might be a messed up terminal in the connector or something where it’s losing a connection.

That's just hooked up to the laptop. Aren't I suppose to download something into it 1st before hooking up to the obd? I did buy it used. Can't figure it out--especially on the laptop end.

No. It’s configured already. You just need to follow Blackbear’s instructions for collecting your stock tune files from your truck. No wonder you got that error code. And when it’s connected to your laptop you don’t mess with the Autocal itself, you just do stuff on the computer as in transfer files from there to the Autocal or vice versa. Follow BB’s instructions, stay off EFI Live’s website or you’ll just get confused. Here ya go. Follow these instructions to the letter. BB makes it pretty easy.

I went there and clicked on the upper right where it says" gas vehicles".
Says I need an authorization code--

How do I get that? Mine is configured for E38, which I don't have, I bought it used.

Did you follow the instructions where it tells you how to get to the screen that shows the licenses? In efilive, hit F7 licenses, then hit F2 hardware and you’ll see the serial number then hit F3 VIN’s and you’ll see the authorization code. You might just want to call them, they can step you through it if you’re ready to buy.

I can't say enough about how easy it was to deal with fixmygauges.com. Great customer service and I got my cluster in three days from my order. Very happy customer here! I decided to go mild on the options, maybe later I'll get the stainless gauge faces. Thanks for the help everyone on where to go!

***EDIT***

Does anyone know if there is anything I need to do to get the transmission temperature gauge to work correctly? Or does it just work plug n play? I haven't driven it since the install.

2003 clusters will work straight after soldering in a step motor. 2004+ clusters would require removing flash memory and flipping a couple of bits in the firmware.

Here it's described in details:

I'm the kind of guy who needs to see someone--or shown how to do something like this. I did send them an email.

Trophies of the day:

Heated & cooled seats and a heated & cooled cup holder. $500 for everything. Had to drive about 100 miles one way to pick them up. The leather condition is SO-SO, I will try to clean it up, but might have to buy new covers to make them perfect. Already made $1 cash back in coins that fell out off the seats.

The old seats are perfect, but, unfortunately, they are incompatible. Heated & cooled seats have perforated inserts for the entire lenght of the of cover, cuz they blow hot or cold air depending for heating or cooling.

Just heated seats have a heating element inside, so theoretically, they don't need perforated inserts at all.

Gonna try. Been waiting to do this for a loooong time.
I thought for a minute you had already bought your tune and were getting ready to data log and copy your stock tunes to send to BB. That’s why I had to remove that post. I was confused myself for a minute, wondering wtf you were doing. But regardless, you can PM me when you get to that point if you need someone to step you through it. I’ve done it a few times. :)

Thx Mark. I bought the Autocal used off here, and just been saving up for it. Finally ready to do it. It's a little frustrating to not be able to do it as soon as I'd like to. Thx for the kind offer.
