Since Christie became governor in NJ , state inspection isn't like it used to be. Back in the day they used to torture your car! No more. As long as your check engine light isn't on, you pass. Doesn't matter if your windshield is smashed, no brakes, bald tires etc, as long as there's no light, you pass. Oh, they also do a visual of your catalytic converter.

Sounds like ours they just do emissions here no vehicle inspection (honestly they should for a safety standpoint, see so many shitboxes that shouldn't be anywhere near the road) there supposed to check for the cat here but they don't use a mirror or camera I think if the exhaust looks sketchy or it fails then they bother looking

Yep tinted windshields are sweet. I'd really like to be able to do that. Something pretty light of course.

It's illegal here too but I figure if I match the front tint with the factory tint on the rears and do 70% on the windshield it might be ok, they really don't hassle you about tint unless your breaking other rules

No tint meter?

Oddly no. He looked at my sides and said "well this isn't legal." Walked to the front and kept looking at my windshield. Probably didn't have one which is why he gave me a warning.

That's odd it's pretty standard equipment out this way they hardly ever break balls about it unless your doing something else to get noticed

Took the HD hood off and grille of my 03. I don't think I'll have it much longer and I'll loose money if I leave it on. Sold the hood already posting the grille on CL soon. Unless someone in Texas wants it.

When I was in high school you used to be able to get away with tipping your local smog guy. Not an option anymore.
Back in maybe 2005, I took my 30th anniversary trans am (ls1) with off-road y-pipe, true duals, long tubes and a decent cam to an inspection station. I had all the codes tuned out but it was lopey and stunk to hell. When I pulled up I handed this kid my insurance and $50 underneath it. He was like, what's this for? I just said you'll see. They drove it in and let it idle while they ran the obdii test plugged into the PCM. Loping away, the shop owner walked out professing it's amazing how they make these cars like this these days, it sounds great! Got my sticker and went on my way. I think the kid got the picture as they never looked underneath. Ended up selling it the next year, but tore that motor apart myself many a time changing cams like underwear.

Man, Cali is rough with this smog stuff. Glad I don't live there!
Not too bad. No visual inspection, just a smog check every 2 years. It depends on who you know. I had my muffler put in at a well known LS shop and they had 3 newer vehicles in there with blown LS3's and no cats...tempting.
