2001 Tahoe sat for abt a yr or 2 with voltage drop issue. I rewired the usual rear of engine block wire , made it heavier, Rewired a heavier wire to frame form Battery and added another to the alternator, It would still drop to 9volts and then stall after abt 2 hrs. You could see the voltage on dash board meter.
Had to reconnect battery to get mileage reading for PA state registration and noticed there was only about 1/4 inch of insulation removed from heavy positive wire running to fuse box assembly , where it was inserted into compression clamp for the positive battery terminal. Not enough, so i trimmed back another 1/2 of insulation, greased it with dielectric grease from harbor fright and then shined up the clamp innards, and compressed both heavy wires going in . Tightened it very well and then connected it to battery.
SO far s good ,, it ran for 2 to 3 hrs in the driveway with no failure. Revved the engine up numerous times to abt 3000 rpm, and it still had no issues.
It was a very warm saturday when I did this., and it usualy failed in that kind of heat.
I am optimistic that this action took care of the chronic voltage drop problem.
Engine has 127K mi on it.
Will keep you posted !
