The heat is generated by the 8 LEDs within the housing, but the main portion of the heatsink (which dissipates the heat) is outside the housing. Everything in the red rectangle below is outside the fog lamp housing.

Thanks for the pic. I was actually referring to the folks with LEDs for the low beam headllights.

I was just wondering how many of you check your OEM bulbs before changing to LEDs or HIDs. To see the difference on the Heat of the bulb. I did an let me tell you that damn halogen bulb almost burn my hand in the time of 5 minutes.
I wouldn't worry about the LEDs generating more heat than the OEM bulb. In just 5 minutes that f was hot...
I ran my LEDs for about 30 to 45 minutes (driveway) . Same s...!

Your right about those damn halogens Angel! I had my fog lights on for only a few minutes and it was hot as hell when I took it out!

The vleds SMZ 5202 looks like it may be a better choice.

Would be an interesting comparison since both use the exact same LEDs (Philips Lumiled) and the same number of them - 8. The main difference being a linear (Vanquish Auto) versus square (VLEDS) LED layout.

Vanquish Auto also has a 2 year warranty on their fog lights versus VLEDS 1 year warranty, which is a definite plus for Vanquish Auto.

I watched the installation video on the SMZ's are the index is adjustable. Combined with the led arrangement making a more concentrated hot spot it may produce a more usable beam pattern.

The higher expense and shorter warranty are defiantly cons.

The SMZ is offered in 5k and 6k temperatures. Which one would be a better match to the led DRL's?

I ordered my 80 watt bulbs on November 30th and it stills shows that it's processing!!! I should have received them by mow! I've sent a few emails with no response! Seriously considering canceling my order, for this inconvenience they should offer me a significant discount but that won't happen!

I need to install these but my back has been in bad shape the last week. I've had 5 back surgeries and this cold weather makes my back worse! Will post pics as soon as I get them in. Bzpilot you said tighten that screw ill be able to feel when it's all the way tight right. Thanks for your post so I could get these lights!

Yes, you should feel the screw snug up nice and tight. The allen wrench is so small (1.5mm) that when the screw is tight the wrench will actually start to bend/twist some under your turning pressure. The wrench will twist itself back when you release the pressure on the screw when it is tight.

Installed my lights yesterday and love them and are very bright! I took out my Xeon depot bulbs that will just sit in my garage I guess unless anyone wants to buy them at a good price. Bzpilot my lights were are the way tight when I got them I put in the little wrench it came with and tried to tighten and they were all ready tight so I double checked by loosening them and then tightening them back up. Thanks for the demo and the help Bzpilot!

Mines were already tight too, they are bright and so evenly spread, much better than that stock bulb, it was taking away from the look
