I see no issues with remote start. For safety, most remote starters have an automatic shutoff after a set time period (GM likes 10 minutes). This is a protection against idiots remote starting their vehicle in a connected garage, and then forgetting about it.

I am assuming that a remote start does not unlock doors.
The on I just installed in mine locks it after start up. And after the 15 minute run time it shuts off and locks signals the doors again.

I think I read somewhere using the remote start can contribute to engine problems. Am I dreaming this?
You probably read here where a forum member insisted (or insists, currently) that starting your vehicle and letting it warm up (without actually driving it right away and driving for 10+ minutes) will dilute the oil with fuel. Granted, he thinks this is mainly an issue with the 6.2s that use 0w-20 oil (I think), but... So, you're not dreaming having seen that -- it's just whether or not you agree that warming your truck up remotely will contribute to engine issues.

No. In fact, on my 07, you have to lock the doors first, before remote starting, presumably so that someone walking by doesn't decide to take a ride in your truck.
They can't take off in the vehicle during a remote start as soon as they step on the brake the engine stops if they dont have the remote. If you dont have the vehicle locked as soon as you activate remote start the doors will lock first then it will start.

The procedure requires the lock button to be pressed at least 2 times before pressing the start button. So it will not be remotely started unlocked.

My 2021 Suburban only needs the remote start button to be pressed twice. The doors automatically lock when I leave the vehicle with the fob. My wifes 2017 Camaro needs to have the door lock button pressed and then the remote start button pressed. Door lock and then start has been a thing in GM vehicles since they started remote start.

I always use a remote starter, both in winter and summer. In winter, I start the engine 7-10 minutes before leaving, sometimes even twice if it's very cold. In summer, I start the engine 1-2 minutes before leaving. Even in summer, the engine needs to warm up, so you either start the engine manually and wait for those 1-2 minutes, or use the push-button starter.

Ditto on all good relating to remote start. Not gonna hurt a thing. I usually do it so I can hear the exhaust bark, not because I Need to
So in this pic where the brick wall ends and the siding begins that is our laundry room area. We have shelving against that wall. When I remote start from in there it rattles everything on the shelf LOL.

It's not remote starting that's bad for the engine, it's short trips.
Whether or not you use remote start, whenever you turn on the engine, hopefully you use the engine on the road for at least the next 20min, better longer.
