Looking at doing keys on my 2005 yukon XL 1500. What is the correct style torsion bar tool or the gm part number for it? I see there is the C-clamp style and another style that is more U shaped.

You can actually use either one. The u shaped one actually fits over the cross member and then screws back together. Just whatever you do, DO NOT use a two jaw puller with the hooks attached to the edge or "lip" if the crossmember !! Some lucky people have had success with a cheap two jaw puller but others have had it fly off and hit them in the face. You only have one face, use the correct tool. Even if you spend $150 on the correct tool, that's still cheaper than an emergency room visit.

Why buy it if you're only going to use it once. Autozone has the GM Torsion Bar Unloading tool as a free loaner.

Autozone loaner tool part # 27278

O'reilly auto will also loan you one for free. The way the free loan works is that they charge your credit card $96.00 when you pick it up and when you bring it back they put a $96.00 credit. Well worth the time if there's an O'Reilly's near you.
