Tire size

Changing from 16" stock wheels to stocks from a 2014 Yukon 17". Stock tires 265/70R16. Should I choose 265/70R17 or 265/65R17 and why? I know the 65 series will be almost exact match as far as speedometer, but 70 series being 2 mph off at like 60-65 doesn't seem bad either, and would maintain sidewall. Thoughts?

I'd get a 275/70/17... That's what my 2002 z71 came with

I would do the 70 series too, mainly because there's more tire options in that size.

What I dont understand is: did yukons with the optional 17" wheels (which apparently came with 70 series tires) have a different speedometer calibration that the same model with 16" rims, since the diameter of the tire is about 3% different? If so, how can I recalibrate my speedo if I wanted to?

Your speedo should be fine with those tires. With my 305/30/26 which are like 33.5" tall my speedo is off 1-2mph at 60.

Must be nice, mine with 275/65r18 is off 5 mph at 65. I'm guessing my speedo was off before and the tires just made it worse

what was your stock tire size?

So nobody knows if a factory 17" wheel has a different speedo calibration than the factory 16"? Or how to recalibrate?

Yes, they have different calibrations, that can be recalibrated using a tech2 scan tool. My 03 originally had 265/70/16 tires. I went to 17 inch wheels with 265/70/17 tires and with tech2 my neighbor has recalibrated tire size in the software. I just got new 18" wheels and upgraded to 265/65/18. The difference in size was so minimal that I haven't recalibrated.

Obviously the dealer could recalibrate for you, but I'm sure they charge way to much. Check out any local shops that may be able to do it. Takes all of 5 minutes to do.

I wonder if that will work on mine. I had my truck tuned by blackbear and he tried to change the tire size and it didn't like it. Something with the traction control wigged out everytime he tried to change it and put the truck in limp mode...

Does anyone know if any other scanners besides Tech2 would set this? It wanting a programmer just to do this...
