While the casting number is visible from outside, you need to pull the valve cover and remove the rockers to see the actual manufacturer as there are multiple companies that made the heads, Castech being one of them. They each have different logos in the castings.Looking at a '03 Tahoe. My question is will the VIN tell me if the motor has the Castech 706 heads? Is the 706 tab on the head visible with the valve cover gasket on?
Thanks!
I have a feeling it's a whole lot rougher then he's letting on. Rust is crazier there then in NJ --that's my opinion tho. I'd take everything he's saying with 2 grains of salt. What am I looking at. I've got a mid sized motorcycle I can't ride anymore. Failed knees, balance issues from age and such mean I can't even get on it. I have a guy interested in trading his 2004 Tahoe title for title for it.
The Tahoe is an Ohio truck but is supposed to have some body rust (In Ohio! Who knew?) but the frame is solid. I don't know what engine or how many miles on the chassis but the engine in it is "supposed" to be a crate replacement with aluminum heads and 25K on it. The transmissions is also "supposed" to have 10K on it.
He wants to drive from the Cincy area to look at my bike. About 260 miles, so I don't know if the deal will go through or not. He's replacing a bad wheel bearing and says that's the only thing keeping it from being a daily driver.
I don't know what engine, what fuel or if the engine is the original displacement. Basically, I'll trade a nice motorcycle that just sits for something I can work on and might keep to keep the miles off my newer car.

Made me think of this.Getting good pics of the whole thing beforehand could tell you a lot. Might save both parties wasted time.

I did a naughty thing. I got a picture and the plate was blurred, but I cleaned it up and ran the plate through a friend who stayed in police work when I left it. It's not really professional, but I'm glad I did. It's been totaled, rebuilt, totaled again, currently has a branded title and has evidence of an odometer roll back.
My friend is passing all this through channels. The owner on record has two felony convictions and is currently on parole from an auto theft charge.
I think I'm going to pass on that one. I may have the bike he wanted to trade for sold anyway.
My 04 tahoe has what I call, eczema on the front fender flares and front bumper top cover. Not too sure what all would like in the thread, but some common problems I have seen on NBS Tahoes / Burbans / Etc are
1. Fuel Pump goes out or fuel gauge is incorrect (fuel level in pump is bad)
2. Water pump goes out
That is what ive had to replace and thats it thus far. 5 years later and 50k plus later
Good job dodging that bullet!I did a naughty thing. I got a picture and the plate was blurred, but I cleaned it up and ran the plate through a friend who stayed in police work when I left it.
