Some people had success cleaning it with a can of compressed air. Others had to replace. I saw a writeup on it awhile back. I think it was in the how to section.

I've had luck with a couple quick squirts of my air compressor whenever it has made noise!!

I remember that thread said you could use compressed air to try to clean it like said above. If that doesn't work, you could pull the headliner down a bit and replace the cabin temperature sensor, I think that's what it's called. I heard they're cheap to replace.

Are you guys talking about the circle mesh plastic thing in the headliner above the drivers head?

Yup, that's the object in question.

Mine makes noise sometimes. I'll hit it with some compressed air and see what happens.

I always thought that thing took the inside air temp so the vehicle would know to run hot or cold air when you had the air system on auto?

I believe that's exactly what it does. Mine did the same thing I just hit it with my air compressor as well and seemed to solve that noise.

Ha, I knew yesterday that if I searched here, I would find at least one thread.

I bought an 01 w/ 130k miles on it, and the previous owner first claimed to not hear anything. :)

Then, he heard it, but said, "oh, that's the OnStar speaker."

Anyways, if you pull the liner down, you can unplug the beast. Once you have the part in your hand, you'll probably notice grime on it. Spin it w/ your finger, and you'll hear it sound like a fan that is going bad.

Bend the little dohickey that's hitting the grime up about 1/4" and spin it again.

Abracadabra, that's all I had to do to mine. Nice and quiet again.

Whats the best spot to pull down the liner? By the door I'd assume?

I'm sure the "official" way is to pull the A-pillar off to give more flex, but all I did was stand with the door open on the driver's side, facing the interior (obviously, :) ), and pull the liner down, directly between myself and where the mesh screen cover is inside. Only needed about 2" gap between liner and roof.

Stuck a small flat head screw driver in to release the wiring... cake.
