2002 Yukon, 5.3l, 2X4

Looking for some trouble shooting tips to solve a (almost daily) no start no crank issue. First run of the day only, dash board meters and lamps all normal, foot on brake, turn on ignition - nothing happens. No fuel pump humming, no dingin’ from the dash, all the normal lamps are on. Notta.

I retry cranking after reinserting the key, also changing the transmission shifter in and out of park (gear indicator always follows the shifter position), hardly anything I can do from the driver’s seat doesn’t seem to have an impact. In fact it starts somewhere I don’t take any actions. But in all cases it takes 5 -8 tries turning the ignition on and off before it magically comes to life. Battery tested good and there is no error code or trouble lamps set. My scanner never has a stored code (cleared or active) once it starts.

Maybe related, my RKE module hasn’t worked for several years. I judt live with out my fobs rather then replacing BCM as I have read the potential issues with changing the BCM.

Several years ago I replaced the PN safety module due an ignition safety wiring issue; this has the same symptoms. I could shut / slam the driver’s door and it would trigger / correct the no crank no start issue at that time. So that wasn’t difficult to find and fix.

The current no start no crank is not leaving me clues (no error codes, no repetitive fixes); it just seems to start after several tries of the ignition switch.

Any and all advice is appreciated; I want to avoid firing the parts cannon at this if at all possible.

Also can anyone recommend where I can get a GMC service manual for this Yukon? Nothing like the generic Haynes manuals, I want detailed service information with torque values and OEM part numbers

Thanks in advance!

One thing you could do is look at live data while cycling the ignition switch to see if the BCM is recognizing the different switch positions.

Bad grounds. It's almost always bad grounds. Make sure they are all good and clean, making good contact. If the problem is still there. Trouble shoot further.
Will do; thanks

Any suggestions on where I can get a decent service manual with out an annual fee (all data….)?

I will definitely try this; I have a Launch 123 scanner tool. Hopefully it has the ability to read those statuses.
Thanks
