UGGHHH, another problem with the Tahoe.

I just replaced a bad fuel injector (#7) 2 weeks ago and replaced all my spark-plugs last week and today I go to get into the Tahoe it seems that it cranks very long before it started, but it did start fine then I went to work and all was fine.

I come home an park and smell gas, i look under car and don't see anything so I am unsure what to do.

Then a hour later I go to the store and when I go to park I smell GAS big time and look under the car and gas is spraying everywhere! it is dripping all under the fuel tank and looks like its coming from the top. I am unsure what to do and drive home (This was prolly unsafe) and park the car and its leaking again (7 gallons between the store and home) and i go under to look closer and it looks like the leak is occurring right where the fuel pump is.

Question: what do I do now? My mom can drive me to work tomorrow and rest of week if I need to go to shop. What is my problem? I figured it was fuel pump and ordered a new one tonight with overnight shipping and it will be here Wednesday.

Do I need a flat bed to get this to a shop? How much will it cost?
I got my fuel pump for $250 shipped, much less then dealer at $450ish

PLEASE HELP AND THANK YOU!

I doubt it'll be fixed by then (for some reason Stealerships seem to take forever, but it's possible if it gets there today)

If the recall isn't the issue, replace that shit yourself and have it done by Friday ;)

UGH, I have a trip planned to Niagara falls for next Monday to thursday with the girlfriend....might need to get cancelled now....sucks

Also my part should be here tomorrow so I am going to call shops and see what they charge as well as calling AAA about getting towed on a flatbed to a shop.

***Called the local Chevy dealer and there is no recall on my Tahoe after giving my VIN number...***

There was a recall for this issue. Some kind of fuel reservoir thing that was prone to leaking and possibly causing a fire. I had mine replaced right after I bought my truck and got the recall notice. Call the dealer with your vin and see if the recall service has ever been performed on your truck. If not, the dealer should have to fix it for free.

EDIT: And do NOT drive it like that. If the gas gets into any of the hot electricl fuel pump wiring it will go BOOM!!

Could you do me a huge favor and find that recall or its item number? I tried look for it and unable to find. Do I just call up any Chevy dealer around here and state the issue I am having and then give them my VIN? I dont know how this works lol

thanks:Handshake:

sorry man, cant find anything about that recall. most likely your fuel filter is lose. can you drop the tank on your own and verify that teh fuel filter is tight ? it could be a broken hose or just a loose hose.

Thanks, my Year 2004-2006 Tahoe have the fuel filter built into the fuel pump (I think awful idea) and do you think that I should replace the entire fuel pump if I am going through the hassle of getting the tank down in the first place?

So you think this is a simple hose repair and I don't need a fuel pump?

has your fuel pump ever been changed ? if not then its time for you change it before it leaves you stranded. i changed mine with a NAPA one couple months ago. dropping the tank is easy just make sure u have as few gallons as possible. it couple be a loose hose. but nothing can be determined until u drop the tank. make sure you dont drive it like that anthony!!!

APR 14, 2005 | Recall ID# 76002 Hide Details

Recall Reason FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
Recall Date APR 14, 2005
Model Affected TAHOE
Potential Units Affected 316508

Recall Summary
CERTAIN TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES WERE BUILT WITH FUEL MODULE RESERVOIR ASSEMBLIES THAT CONTAIN FUEL PUMP WIRES CONNECTORS MAY OVERHEAT UNDER CERTAIN OPERATING CONDITIONS.

Consequence
IF THE IGNITION CIRCUIT WIRE IS EXPOSED, THE FUEL PUMP FUSE WILL BLOW, DISABLING THE FUEL PUMP AND CAUSING AN ENGINE STALL OR NO-START CONDITION. IF SUFFICIENT HEAT IS CONDUCTED TO THE PASS-THROUGH CONNECTOR, A HOLE IN THE CONNECTOR MAY RESULT, WHICH MAY CAUSE A 'SERVICE ENGINE SOON' LIGHT TO BE ILLUMINATED DURING THE EMISSION SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINE. FUEL VAPOR AND IN SOME CASES LIQUID FUEL MAY LEAK OUT OF THE FUEL TANK THROUGH THE HOLE IN THE CONNECTOR BODY. FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE. ALSO IF THE IGNITION CIRCUIT OR GROUND WIRE IS EXPOSED AND SHORTS TO THE FUEL LEVEL SENDER CARD WIRES, INACCURATE FUEL LEVEL READINGS MAY RESULT.

Remedy
DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE FUEL TANK, AND REMOVE THE MODULE RESERVOIR ASSEMBLIES FROM THE TANK, AND INSTALL A NEW SERVICE KIT FREE OF CHARGE. AN INTERIM LETTER TO OWNERS WAS MAILED ON MAY 25, 2005. THE OWNERS WERE RE-NOTIFIED ON OCTOBER 19, 2005, SINCE PARTS ARE NOW AVAILABE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438 AND GMC AT 1-866-996-9463.

So, how do I go about seeing if this is my issue? DO I call the 1-800 number or do I call the dealership?
