Typically subs in an SUV sound best aimed up with the port of the box facing the rear.

I think it depends on the type of enclosure that you are using, a sealed enclosure does not have ports so directional placement should not be an issue, and if I'm not mistaken low frequency (bass) is non-directional, so placement should not matter in either case...

i've had them both ways and the best way is facing the rear so they can bounce off the back door it hits much harder

what they have all said. i put subs in my sisters jeep and its a ported box with 2 12s. sounds real nice aimed at rear hatch, you get the bass bouncing all around inside instead of in the seat

Depends upon your subs. Like for example I have the new Orion HCCA's and they need to be facing straight up or straight down according to Orion. If you face them to the back or the front you may or will cause damage to the voice coil. It doesn't hurt to call the manufacture to find out.

bass technically is non-directional...so it shouldn't matter...but what do i know...i've never had 8 12s in the back of my truck or anything.
