I am planning on installing a leveling kit and upgrading to some Cooper LT285/70/17s next month. I have a 2005 Z71 Tahoe with the original stock spare tire. I want to replace the spare but wanted some advice. Does it make sense to purchase a stock size (265/70/17) to keep as a spare that way the vehicle has stock size if I ever sell or or give it to my dad and he takes the kit/big tires off down the road? If I had a blowout and had to use the spare, is it a big deal to drive a few miles to get a replacement while on mismatched sized tires? (This answer may vary depending on if it front or rear blowout)
If I get a spare that matches the others (285/70/17) would you get a matching brand or just whatever is cheapest? I am not sure if I want to add the spare tire to the rotation mix. I don't do my own tire rotations but will tire shops/dealerships take off your spare and swap it in the rotation if you want it done that way? Do they charge extra for that?
If I don't care about swapping the spare into the rotations in order to spread out the tire wear, it makes sense to me to just get some cheap spare that is same size.
Does anyone have the tire pressure limits for the stock 17 inch Z71 wheels? Is there a limit the wheel can handle using the higher pressure E rated tires? I am not asking about the tire itself, but the stock Z71 wheel.
Finally, will a 285/70/17 fit in the spare wheel area on a 2005 Tahoe?
I love this forum and thanks to anyone who has any advice.
