I’m buying a 2026 Tahoe RST with the 5.3. Just confused about the oil 0w 20 vs 5w 20 and the DFM disabler. Any thoughts

I was looking for answer like this. I'm thinking about upgrading from my 2011 tahoe.
you couldn't pay me to buy one of these t2's
a simple break down is major hassle no thanks, tons of nannies, internal engine problems
federally mandated thick pillars reduce your overall view, the rear window view is about the size of a shoe box
a simple no start and you can't even roll it without getting under it and messing with the shifter mechanism and electronic parking brake.
and when those fancy lcd's take a crap (and they will) replacements are not going to be cheap and if GM keeps up with there normal routine critical parts will cease to be made
and with there new software lockdowns getting a 3rd party replacement part is less likely
some of the modules used can only be programmed once, so once the new ones are depleted you are s.o.l.
I have seen these already with pieces and panels falling off, makes no sense
but too each there own, I am sure the jone's next door will be jelly

This would be my first Chevy Tahoe. I have been a Chevy die hard, mainly with the Traverse model. I am looking at the 2026 Tahoe Z71 model. I continue to read the horror stories of the 6.2 engine and a few even on the 5.3. I am retired and do lite driving but would use it on vacations and a few long trips per year. I am looking at a cost of over $80k, the most I have ever paid for a vehicle and am concerned but love the vehicle and its’ ride. My two Traverse, a 2020 HC and 2010 have been some of my best vehicles. I believe I read Chevy is coming out with a new lineup of engines in 2027. Should I wait or be concerned with the 2026 Tahoe(5.3)? I appreciate any thoughts!
Have a '23 Tahoe Premier with the 5.3. 62,000 miles and zero issues. If you're concerned about the ride, the Premier is definitely more on-road oriented, where the Z71 is more off-road focused. Tires on the Z71 are more aggressive and might have a bit more road noise (I can't verify this, as I haven't ridden in a Z71). The ride and tires on my Premier are exceptional on the highway. I also opted for the 20-inch wheels vs. upgrading to the 22's. 20's have more sidewall, and I've read some reviews that more sidewall = more compliance and a better ride. 22's will be lower profile, and could impact the ride. Again, I can't verify this, as I'm on 20's every day. All I can say is the ride is exceptional in my Premier.

2025 engines will be added to the recall/lawsuits next year.., probably 2026 engines as well
Tough to wait till 2027 for an unproven new engine design

Something to think about......Have you driven the 25 Traverse yet and actually heard the difference in engine noise vs anecdotal comments from magazines and You-tubers?

My kid bought a 25 Traverse RS in black its gorgeous and fully loaded with SuperCruise, it looks like a mini Tahoe inside and personally the front and rear styling is more aggressive then my 25 Tahoe.

I drove it and yes its louder but IMHO not that bad. The 4 cylinder turbo is more powerful then any of the previous V6 so its personal preference, like movies, restaurants, and political parties.

The RS line is fully loaded you get a lot of bang for your buck so don't dismiss it until you drive it.

I thought the issue was fixed with 6.2’s from the 2025+ model years. Issue was manufacturing defect in the crankshaft bearings and from what I read that has been corrected in 2025.

I just bought a 2026 RST with the 6.2 and performance package. Love the thing. I had a 5.3 Tahoe before and this one is much more fun to drive with the extra power and the sound for sure.

And I looked at the GM warranty from Knapp they quoted me around 3k for an additional 96 months and 100k mile platinum warranty. That’s an option as well if you are worried about it it. I may get it with all the electronics in this thing like the mag ride, air shocks, 360 degree cameras, pretty much a driving computer at this point.

Also I was looking for a 2023 Tahoe RST with the 5.3 originally but they sell out quickly around here. I went to look at 3 of them they all sold right as I walked in.

But yes you can save some money getting a used one if you don’t care about the 2025+ new interior and don’t need a 6.2 after recall model years.

My wife loves the new screens and interior of the refresh so we just bought the new one.

2020 Tahoe Z71 with the 5.3 and 68k miles.

Other than a battery, and new starter, truck has been great. No, or negligible, oil loss between changes. If you decide to go this way, a big thing with these engines is oil change intervals. Don't go by what the truck tells you for oil life, and use a good quality synthetic. I did the first oil change at 500 miles, and then every 5K since then. I actually just switched from 0W-20 to 5W-30. Been reading lots of things about 0W-20 being too thin, and GM just recommends it because of fuel mileage here in the states. I also use the Range Disabler to keep the engine in V8 mode all the time, and I installed the K & N Catch Can.

Modules only being used once has been a thing for over 10 years or so. Since Global A, around the time the K2 came out. I am not sure where your seeing all of these problems with the T1 trucks but they aren't any worse than any other generation vehicle, besides the 6.2 problem. Every vehicle has problems, all generations of GM trucks. Most people forget them and bash the new version, even if they don't have one. The new versions have a olt more tech in them. Some people like that others don't. I like some of it in my 2021 High Country Suburban 6.2, which just passed the test with 94,000 mile on it, but I don't like all of it. It is the best riding Suburban I have ever been in, and it does not have air ride. I really like the truck other than it will be harder to tune it than the older trucks. It is way better than my sons 2013 GMT 900 Suburban in evry way except price.

I have a 2011 Tahoe LTZ with the same engine and never been apart even tough it's AFM not DFM. I use a Range AFM delete so it runs on all 8 and never had a issue. I would do the same if I bought a newer model with DFM in a heartbeat.
sorry my friend......having my 6.2 L. 2015 Yukon Denali (Tahoe Elevation or Premium) And gotten stranded Twice ( almost killed once!!) I'll never by GM till they straighten out their act! Engine blew up Twice w lifter problems! at 48K and 64K Covered under Waranty first time, and saved my bacon w my $3K Optional Extended Warranty 2nd time!

I saw a guy take a test drive at Dealer and blow engine on the TEST!! It was 6.2,L but I heard 5.3 is similar problems.

GM came out w Extended Warranty on the 2021-2025....leaving me in lurch. Bye bye GM!!

PS.....throughout turbos are fast little noisy, short lived lifespan. LEASE IT ONLY if you must have. Sorry.....

Do you like the center AC vents lower like that? Where do you put your cell phone?

I like the layout. Your cellphone either stays in your pocket or goes in the wireless charger below the ac controls.

The car has wireless CarPlay so there is no need to look at or have your phone to touch. Everything you need to do with your phone is on the Tahoe screens.

If you can test drive similar trucks with similar suspension (air and magnetic ride are well worth it) to see how you feel about the difference.

For me the 6.2l was way more powerful and faster and the tow capacity is better if that’s a factor.
Hitting the throttle you can feel and hear the difference but for some people that is not a priority.
If you don’t care about performance you can save a couple grand with the 5.3l which is a great engine for average driving and light towing.

Fuel economy is similar and maybe better with the 6.2l in some cases.

You can get a lot of opinions but driving side by side is better than any opinion.

Either way the new trucks are so much better performance, handling and ammenities like adaptive cruise, cameras, HUD etc.
Or maybe you drive it and you might think it’s not worth the price
Test drive is everything!
