This would be my first Chevy Tahoe. I have been a Chevy die hard, mainly with the Traverse model. I am looking at the 2026 Tahoe Z71 model. I continue to read the horror stories of the 6.2 engine and a few even on the 5.3. I am retired and do lite driving but would use it on vacations and a few long trips per year. I am looking at a cost of over $80k, the most I have ever paid for a vehicle and am concerned but love the vehicle and its’ ride. My two Traverse, a 2020 HC and 2010 have been some of my best vehicles. I believe I read Chevy is coming out with a new lineup of engines in 2027. Should I wait or be concerned with the 2026 Tahoe(5.3)? I appreciate any thoughts!

Your odds for success with that vehicle are very high. If you like it and can afford it, buy it, IMO.

I bought a 2023 Z71 with the 6.2 and 31,000 mi on it a year ago. And I use it exactly how you plan to. It now has 41,000 mi and has been thru the recall check with no problems found. I did buy the Carbyte EFM and DOD disabler and installed a catch can but its stock other than that. All the negative that I read makes me a little nervous but the more I drive it, the less I worry. As far as the new 2027 engines, who knows what issues they will have if any? I tend to stay away from the first year offerings. Good luck on your decision.

5.3… first thing change oil at 500 miles.. check filter too.. on mile #2 install a cach to reduce oil in the intake system…. 5.3 is way better than a ford for longevity… also. Every normal oil change run some gdi cleaner to reduce what oil into the intake

Actually, I like the new Traverse a lot myself. Can you get that with the V6 engine now?

Did a little research and the current Traverse and Acadia machines are 4 cylinder only. GM ruined yet another line. Are these built in the USA? If so that would explain it.

The 5.3 is a great engine and very reliable. The 6.2 problem with the poorly ground crankshafts did not spill over. It ought to provide you with many years of trouble free operation if you do your part and keep the fluids fresh and clean.

That’s the problem. I planned on buying a new traverse, but they took away the 6 and put in a turbo 4 cyclinder which is noisy. The only option that have for even the High Country is the 6.2, which has been plagued with severe problems. Yes, I agree - I love my two traverse. My 2010 looks and runs great but I get concerned about it breaking down when I am far away from home.

Thank you for you input. I believe that is what I will go for. The active noise canceling and magnetic ride is unbelievable technology. I had no idea until I drove one. The ANC literally makes the vehicle library-quiet even with the slightly louder Z71 package pipes.

Recommend 5.3L engine all day long (even before the 6.2L "manufacturing defect" fiasco). The ~50-60ft lbs added torque isn't persuasive enough given that the 6.2L needs premium gas (and now premium oil?).

Now, 5.3L vs 6.6L, that's a different story.... but unfortunately the 6.6L isn't an option on the 1/2 tons.

I have a 2021 Z71 Tahoe with the 5.3. I bought it new in January of ‘21. Have had zero problems with it and I just hit 104,000 miles. I had the transmission serviced every 50k and regular maintenance every 5-7k miles. Getting ready to have the transfer case and brakes serviced.

'09 Tahoe LT 4WD 5.3 Flex. Purchased new. Engine has 285k miles on it and still low oil consumption. Do a fair amount of off-road, 4WD hi/lo. I am pretty rough on my truck but it's a champ. I know, sample of 1.

If buying new, you really need to look at the diesel option, else purchasing a more reliable used one is a better choice. The old adage that they don't make them like they use to applies to GM SUVs.

2020 Tahoe Z71 with the 5.3 and 68k miles.

Other than a battery, and new starter, truck has been great. No, or negligible, oil loss between changes. If you decide to go this way, a big thing with these engines is oil change intervals. Don't go by what the truck tells you for oil life, and use a good quality synthetic. I did the first oil change at 500 miles, and then every 5K since then. I actually just switched from 0W-20 to 5W-30. Been reading lots of things about 0W-20 being too thin, and GM just recommends it because of fuel mileage here in the states. I also use the Range Disabler to keep the engine in V8 mode all the time, and I installed the K & N Catch Can.

I have a 2011 Tahoe LTZ with the same engine and never been apart even tough it's AFM not DFM. I use a Range AFM delete so it runs on all 8 and never had a issue. I would do the same if I bought a newer model with DFM in a heartbeat.
