Shaved Liftgate Wiring Question

I have a little damage on my liftgate and am taking it in to get painted soon. I decided before I take it to shave the wiper and rear handle. I'm going to add a second glass pop button next to the original to act as a door button. I've heard everything runs through the wiper motor, so option 1 is cut off shaft and leave intact or option 2 figure out how to wire around it. Does anyone have any experience in option 2?
