Ok, just ordered the $30 switch lol..

I have not really looked at how it comes out. Any tips to replacing the switch? Taking off the trim piece?

Yes, take the dash trim piece off, it will help to put the gear shift in neutral so you can bettet pull the trim off. Use your fingers to seperate the trim from the dash....snaps off and back on. You will be able to see the switch unit better then. You will need a small flat head screw driver to pry the tabs on the side so that you can pull the old switch out. You will have wires on the back that will limit how far you can pull the switch out, simply unplug the wires. Then plug the wires into the new switch and snap back in the place.

gdddup,

Sounds like you have the same problem bro. If everything seems fine then i would start with the 4WD selector switch. Cheap part and easy to install.

How to fix the SERVICE 4X4 Idiot Light

In 10 minutes patience and some soldering experience and @ $0.0 cost:

Lower your steering column as low as it goes.
Put your gear selector to 1st gear to allow easy dash cover removal.
Pull out your ashtray and carefully "peel" the corner of your dash cover (try to do that at temperatures above 50°F so the cover has some flexibility)
With a flat blade screwdriver remove the module switch out, take the two wire connectors off and your options are:
1) Open the switch clear the solder and re-solder the pins and put it back together at $0.0 cost and big bragging rights to your friends at the bar and your wife or....
2) Purchase the switch from e-bay anywhere from $30+ or dealer in the range of $70 plus still some pride but not a ton of beer money left like from step 1 above.
Put everything back together and you are ready to go. Good luck.
Did I mention ZERO dollar cost?????

Well 10 mos later and the cheap ass POS switch from Rock Auto went out again! I probably used the switch 10 times. Grrr... Not sure what I'm going to do.. might try that solder trick, but I don't have a soldering kit.
