So i am thinking about removing the roof rack but need to find out what size the screws are so i can get replacments. Also there wont be any leaking issues if i replace with a stainless steel screw or plastic plug? Right?

Just take them off and bring one of the screws to the hardware store and tell them you need something half the size, thats what I did

Cool, Thanks- I figured it was just an insert but before i went tearing it off I wanted to find out for sure. If I take it off I plan on just getting some stainless steel allen screws with a rounded top.

What did you use for screws/plugs? if anything?

Why not use set screws? I plan on using these. I took the cross bars off yesterday and i like the look. However, i think removing the wole rack is the way to go. I will post some pics after doing this mod...

You know, I'm thinking there must be GM part numbers for roof rack filler screws and any other associated parts. PPV/SSV Tahoes come with pre-drilled roof rack holes but without racks on ... whatever GM uses to cap those gaps is probably the best way to do it.

Btw, the advantage of using the GM spec parts is that god forbid there should ever be a leak/corrosion, it will still be covered under that element of the warranty. Use random screws and plugs and a potentially incredibly expensive problem would have to be funded out of pocket.

Just thinking out loud ...

You sure about that? You're saying that they have the threaded inserts but nothing in them?

Pretty sure ... I distinctly remember a thread where the OP was looking for a roof rack for his PPV, he went to check if he had pre-drilled holes at our suggestion, and came back in the affirmative.

I'll try to dig up the thread ...

I can't find the thread right now ... but I found some other threads where some folks with PPVs have pre-drilled holes and some don't.

This seems pretty accurate from what we've been seeing around here.
My 2012 SSV did not have any pre-drilled holes. The 2011 PPVs around here also didn't have them (only 4 to look at, though).

Just FYI on mine, they were open ended. I used set screws, teflon tape and silicone, waiting on trim to cap it all off. We shot air into the holes and the air just kept going, so for those that didn't seal theirs, might want to double check them.
