has anybody ever actually swapped out this piece for the center console. If so what did you put in it’s place.

I scored this at the local pull-a-part, if your lucky you can find this too.
Very hard part to find. Was gonna order it through work but it was discontinued.

Either this option, make your on pocket somehow, or upgrading to the 03 center console.

I have no need for it. And was wondering what all could fit in there
With what you can replace it, I am unsure -- I am sorry I don't have an answer. But I was looking at what the console piece gave you and thinking someone with a family might want that piece to mod their ride.

It’s there. I have no use for it. It’s a little cracked. But I don’t need it since I upgraded my radio

I saw several of these today at my local salvage yard. I also have no need for rear controls. You can find these in Suburbans or Tahoes ; same size.
Be careful when removing, not only must you remove the cupholder fold-down to get at 2 phillips, but there are also 2 metal clips you need to depress to remove the tabs at the very bottom of this panel. You get to them thru the interior "box" you have to remove. You can't get a straight shot at them; you will be tempted to twist them - do not do that ! The plastic to which these metal clips are attached breaks easily.
