Remote start sporadically wont work

2023 Yukon XL Denali

A few weeks ago, I was out of town for work and it snowed at home. I started the truck via my app to give it a quick start and help get rid of some of the snow on it, but when I used my cameras to check on it I realized the truck wasnt on. Tried it two more times, and it did not start.

I got home two days later and tried to remote start it, but no luck. I used every other button on the remote and they all worked, but the remote start did not. I mamually started the vehicle, shut it off, then tried the remote and it worked. *shrug*


The next day, I tried the remote again and same issue. I took it to the delear and after 4 days, they said they could not replicate it. I went to get the truck and lo and behold, it would not start so I showed my service advisor. I tried to start via phone and it again failed as well.

This week, I left the truck with the dealer again while gone on another work trip. They asked for both keys this time. They tested the batteries in both keys and said both had low voltage, so they replaced the batteries (mind you, one key has been used less than 10 times total).

Guess I'll find out when I get the truck back, but I'm not convinced it is as simple as a low remote battery because all other buttons worked without issue.

I would have asked what the keys have to do with anything when the app won't start it as well. Do the lights flash when you try to remote start?

Nope.

Dealer changed the batteries in the remotes and so far so good. Odd.

Guess time will tell.

Help. This happened again, just over a month since the last time. Car randomly would not remote start, but everything else worked fine. When I went to start it with the push button, it started RIGHT up.

I’ve never once had an issue using remote start with the key fob. But if I try to do it through the app, it won’t always work on the first try.

Still on original battery? Did the dealer test the battery? Based on the model year, I'd guess the battery is getting close to being four years old and that's when they start to fail.

Pretty sure the truck will not remote start if the battery level is below certain threshold.
